What did the players do during this exchange? Have sides been chosen yet?
No, we finished last week's game at around midnight on the 24th. The above exchange will take place during the game this Sunday night, but I figure them hearing that conversation will only take about 5-10 minutes, and am looking for ideas for a few more role encounters to toss in on the 25th.

The second chapter of the Story Hour is now posted, detailing their arrival in Tombstone and meeting with the Sheriff. I should have the third and final chapter from last week's game posted at some point this weekend.

No, which is what should make the next game very interesting. They've met Doc Holliday and Johny Ringo so far, but still haven't met either the Clantons or Earps. My brother (Sam's player) is under the impression that Arcade's Gang are only going to just be spectators and stay out of the line of fire of both groups, but somehow I doubt that my other players will see it that way.

Did a little more historical research today, finding that the one encounter I had credited for the 25th actually took place after midnight on the early morning hours of the 26th. However, I did stumble across the following for the next game day:

October 25, 1881 - Billy Clanton has breakfast a few miles outside of Tombstone at Jack Chandlers milk ranch with his brother Ike and the two McLaury brothers. After breakfast Ike and Tom McLaury headed towards Tombstone. Billy and Frank McLaury rounded up cattle in the Stockton Hill area. All agreed to meet the next day at the Grand Hotel in Tombstone.

Most account have these two arriving in Tombstone on the 26th, however the web site for the Grand Hotel, part of Big Nose Kate's Saloon (which still exists in Tombstone) states: On October 25, 1881, the night before the Gunfight at the OK Corral, the Clantons and the McLaurys were guests here. So I've decided to go with that history and have the Clantons and McLaurys meet Arcade's Gang there on the 25th. Add to that this little tidbit about the proprietor, Big Nose Kate: her biggest claim to fame was the fact that she was also Doc Holliday's girlfriend. Kate had saved Holliday from the hangman in Fort Griffin, Texas, by breaking him out of jail. For this, Doc was eternally grateful, and the two traveled the West making money the best they could: Doc with his gambling, and Kate, well, with her womanly charms.

Plus the web site gives me a very detailed description of the establishment and also an exterior picture to use as a visual aid.

Two other places that I found to use for encounters on the 25th (that also still exist and I found photos of) are:

The Bird Cage Theater: It was the most famous honky-tonk in America between 1881 and 1889. In nine years this lusty den of iniquity never closed its doors 24 hours a day. Before it closed its door in 1889, it had been the site of 16 gunfights, and 140 bullet holes are today silent evidence of these happenings. The Bird Cage was named for the 14 bird cage crib compartments that was suspended from the ceiling overhanging the gamling casino and dance hall. These compartments were used by the ladies of the night. The longest poker game of Western history took place here, it ran continually for 8 years, 5 months and 3 days!

Crystal Palace Saloon: It was built in 1879, as a two-story builing on the corner of Fifth and Allen Streets. It was the most popular watering place of its time among the 110 establishments licensed to sell liquor. Second floor was offices. Town Marshall Virgil Earp and Judge Wells Spicer kept office here.

So it looks like I'm in pretty good shape for tomorrow's game, but please feel free to offer suggestions for more role playing encounters if you can think of them. Bear in mind, Arcade's Gang now has a HUGE reputation for their killing of Billy the Kid three months earlier.

A very interesting game, which ended immediately prior to when the Gunfight took place. Arcade's Gang (the playing characters) spent most of the 25th and morning of the 26th hanging out in the town's various saloons and watching what was going on. They've witnessed most of the altercations so far between the Earps/Holliday and the Clantons, but have only really interacted thus far with the Earps (except for Morgana, who managed to get Ike Clanton to stop drinking and get a few hours nap).

The game ended just as the Earps & Holiday were about to head from Hafford's Saloon to go disarm the Clantons. Arcade's Gang then showed up and managed to talk the Earps out of going by agreeing to go instead! Arcade's Gang then left, heading towards the O.K. Corral. They did not leave anybody behind to make sure that the Earps stayed at Hafford's Saloon, and I just can't picture Doc Holliday being willing to just sit around and let somebody else fight a battle for him. In the original gunfight there was also somebody other than the Clanton's & Earps who got in a shot from outside of the alleyway, so I've also got that "second shooter" to use to help spark things off next week.

Should be an exciting game next week. The final chapter from last week's game has now been posted to the Story Hour. I'll get the chapters from yesterday's game up as the week progresses.

there is a little town near Tombstone name Bisbee. It has always been a strange town. Its a mining community and all the homes a built onto the sides of the mountains where the mines were. In those times they were looking for silver and more modernly they still bring copper out. In any case, Bisbee is a strange town, it has always attracted strange characters. In the 60's alot of radicals hung out there. There are a few stories about the town being haunted.

Where the current town of Sierra Vista is located stands Ft. Huachuca, home of the Buffalo Soldiers. The whole area was heavily involved in the Indian Wars ( think it was the Commanche). Any how, do a little research online and you can come up with a quite a bit: Bisbee, Ft Huachuca, Nogales, Cochies County, these might help.

Looking for strategies for tomorrow's game!

It Looks like some lead will be flying in Tombstone at Sunday night’s game. Please feel free to make any comments or suggestions regarding your opinions of how this should all go down. (A link to a map of the town is in an above post).

Here is the cast of characters at this point in time:

Group One: Arcade’s Gang: The five playing characters. Two fighters, a figher/druid, a fighter/rogue, and a druid/bard. All are 2nd level in each class. The gang also has an intimidating reputation for having taken on the James Gang and having killed Billy the Kid. They just left Haffords Saloon and are on the way to the alleyway near the O.K. Corral to disarm the Clantons.

Group Two: The Clantons: Ike Clanton, Billy Clanton, Frank McLaury, Tom McLaury & Billy Claibourne. All are 2nd or 3rd level fighters. They are waiting in the alleyway off of Freemont Street to bushwack Doc Holliday when he comes by this way going towards the nearby O.K. Corral for a shootout with Ike.

Group Three: The Earps: Town Marshal Virgil Earp, Wyatt Earp, Morgan Earp, and Doc Holliday. All are 4th level fighers except for Holliday who is 6th. Currently in Haffords Sallon. They were going to go to the alleyway to disarm the Clantons, but Arcade’s Gang convinced them to do it instead. They will only wait around five minutes, and then head out themselves. . Their path will have them going on Allen Street and through the O.K. Corral to the alleyway (that was the route they originally took going from Haffords Saloon to the alleyway).

Group Four: Johnny Ringo’s Gang: I received an e-mail from Gary Gygax suggesting that I add Johnny Ringo and his pals Buckskin Frank Leslie and Pony Deal to the action. Playing characters Arcade and Hank joined these three for poker on the 24th, at which time this trio expressed their hatred of the Earps. In the original Gunfight, Billy Claibourne ran away. So I’m thinking that at the first sight of Arcade’s Gang approaching the Clantons I’ll have him run off and get Ringo, Buckskin and Pony. Ringo and Buckskin are 5th level fighters, Pony is 3rd.

Wildcard One: Billy Allen: In the original gun battle, a “mystery gunman” fired a shot or two at the Earps from behind an adjacent building. Historians feel that a man named Billy Allen was the responsible party, so I’ll have him available as a possible anti-Earp “wildcard”. Allen is a 2nd level fighter.

Wildcard Two: Johnny Behind-the-duce: Gary Gygax also suggested the character of Johnny Behind-the-duce, real name Michael O’Rourke, who was an interesting historical character from Tombstone’s history. I found the following interesting piece of historical fiction about him titled “Duce’s Wild”: http://members.aol.com/margeebee/shortsty.htm He will feel that he owes the Earps a favor so will be a pro-Earp “wildcard”. He came into town when he heard Arcade’s Gang was there. Johnny is a 4th level fighter/5th level rogue.

County Sheriff and Deputies While they will not be immediately on the scene, if the battle goes on long enough I could also bring in Sheriff Johnny Behan and Deputies Billy Breakenridge and Jeb Dalton. Behan and Dalton are 3rd level fighters and Breakenridge is 5th.

Note: The Story Hour for this adventure is almost up to date. I’ll have the final chapter from last week’s game up sometime this weekend.

That's certainly a big mixed group! You're playing 2nd Ed, aren't you?

I think keeping a very careful grasp on what each group is doing and precisely where they are is going to be your friend here, especially when bullets start flying and people start running around to get other people and so forth...

My money is on at least one PC casualty, sad to say.

You might want to look at upping Johnny Ringo's level a bit from 5th. He was considered to be "The Cowboys" ace in the hole. He was the guy Brocious threatened people with when necessary.

If Holliday is 6th, maybe make Ringo 6th as well.

Since Gygax's rules for D&D/Boot Hill were in the 1st Edition DMG we decided to use that for this campaign, although for Morgana we are using the 2nd Edition Bard rules. We are using Boot Hill 2nd Edition RPG rules (1979) for firearms combat.

Isn't that part of the fun of it? Today I've cleaned up our "Gameroom" from Christmas so that we can play in there again, and use the 4x8 foot dry erase board with 1" squares marked on it. I also have enough painted western miniatures for each of the 22 possible characters, which I'm also thinking of gluing onto a color-coded nametag square, for easier reference.

I've also encouraged guests to come and play in the game tomorrow. Normally more players makes things harder, but with the number of NPC's this time I think it would actually help.

Could be. Louie managed to get shot three times in the encounter against the James Gang but Morgana was able to get to him with healings spells before he went to the great beyond. If I were a betting man I don't think I'd put any on Hank Hill to survive, given how aggressively his player usually is.
