A line drawing of a dragon

I drew this a while back, but the scanner wasn't scanning. If anyone wants to colour it in or add scales etc be my guest.

Does anyone know of a good way to draw scales? I accidently printed one straight from the scanner so I have a spare to practice on.

http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail58.html has some pointers...

On a more helpful note, when it comes to dragons, I use large plates of armour, taking liberal inspiration from the Monster Manual. Such plates are huge along the back and on regions that don't flex much, but articulate and small on joints. If you're not into plate scale, going for a more lizardy appearance, I'd apply small scales to shadowed or contoured regions, using them to emphasise lighting and curvature on the beast.

Hope that's helpful...

Yes that is helpful, but I'm not sure how to draw the scales not how to draw them on the dragon (though because you showed me how :) ). The best I think I could do is a pathetic C shape. Thats were I need the help.

I did some rough sketching. It might look a bit weird (no shading, plus I'm drawing on someone else's drawing) but there's the approximate idea.

I've also drawn some dragons in the early stages of my webcomic, if you're interested (link in sig)... they're a little more integral.
