The Laughing One
I always thought that making my own monster cards was a good idea, but i never realised how good an idea until i got some of those plastic prepainted D&D miniatures with monster cards included. Now dozens of boxes later i have a lot of monster cards, but i also have a huge collection of other minis, not to mention that i would like to use that Blue Dragon from Deathknell as a Large Dragon instead of a Medium Dragon. So, out monster cards making i go.

Wizards of the Coast isn't the only company making monster cards, nor is it the first. The Other Game Company has an pdf available for a long time with all the monsters from the SRD, and a blanc pdf as well. But i'm one of those folks that wants to do everything himself, and i ususally share with others what i make for D&D or D20 online, so it might be usefull to ask around what people like to see in their monster cards.

There's a couple of ways to go, either horizontal or vertical cards (WotC uses horizontal cards for D&D stats, TOGC uses vertical cards for their OGL monsters).

Please fill in the poll and discuss your wishes for the "Ultimate Monster Cards" (yeppers, that's what i'll be calling the pdfs)...

hey, if we wouldn't get sued, we could make those for the Creature Catalog. ;)
Looks around at his pile of monsterbooks (ToH1, ToH2, TBoF, etc.) I'll only share those monster cards that are made up of monsters that are OGC. How much of the CC is OGC?

I've been a huge fan of the TOGC cards for a while now. Even pimped them to a new GM who went out and bought their monster card pack. Come to think of it, it doesn't really matter to me if they're horizontal or vertical, because I'm always mixing in index cards which I write on horizontally.

Well, you can't please all of them all of the time. Some people seem to prefer large cards with large fonts, some want to print as few pages as possible, and so on.

Anyway, thanks Cergorach for mentioning the TOGC cards :)

Oh, and a quick sidenote: all the crucial information is on the front of our cards - the back only lists the descriptions of special abilities/attacks (and the creature's environment and somesuch).

Well, you could ask me, and I'd put the CC creatures on the TOGC cards ;)

Glad to hear that. And thanks :)

I say have a really nice black and white line drawing on one side and stats on the backside. Vertical or horizontal, it doesn't matter to me. A funny alternative might be to have the pic and stats on one side, and a pic of the defeated monster on the other.
