Scun starts stripping off his breastplate and leaves it with his pack. "I'll be back in a moment." He gives a toothy smile that looks like a grimace and isn't pretty to look at and heads down the stairs at a brisk rate.

ooc: Movement rate should be 50' now. Scun heads down carefully, watching and listening for the swarm and trying to find the armor to grab and come back up.

Imbued with the speed of Mongrel, Scun descended once more into the ruin.

Glancing upward from the book, Mona tried to call him back. "Wait! We must leave now while everyone is still safe!"

Whether the half-orc continued downward or not, she just shook her head and carefully opened the book's covers. She closed them half a second later.

"Yes. This is the book. It needs perusal in a safer environ" Mona rubbed her eyes tiredly.

Scun continues down, hearing Mona but too stubborn to heed her wise words.

ooc: attempt the grab and retreat maneuver unless he sees the swarm before or near the armor.

"We shouldn't rest here. In fact, we shouldn't rest until we're at the beach. Remember, Nezrak spotted some kind of spidermonster while we camped; I'd rather not let it sneak up on us while we sleep. Let's clear the swamp while there's light, and we can use the last of our oil to light our path through the jungle at night."

"And that armour Scun is fetching is magical, according to Nezrak; it'll surely help protect one of them against whatever attacks us in the dark. Besides, Scun has fortified himself with the power of the Mongrel. He'll be back in no time."

OOC: ...but just to be on the safe side, Ogrin follows Scun and waits at the top of the stairs down to the level where the vermin waited, relaying information to the others.

Mona looked unconvinced, but she wasted no more breath on the subject. Instead, she studied those of her companions who were still aboveground.

She incanted a prayer to her deity and channeled healing magicks into Razh's form. (8 hp healed)

The halfling also cast the same spell upon Rillian (9 hp healed)

Code:
Rasereit [6+8 =14/24]
Nezrak [5/9, 2 dex damage]
Scun [19/19, 1 dex damage]
Ogrin [11/17, 5 dex damage]
Rillian [5+9 =13/13]

Meanwhile, Scun disappeared swiftly into the darkness with Ogrin trailing slowly behind.

After traversing across the water-filled first level, the half orc carefully tread the steps to floor that used to belong to Golgol. If Rillian was right, the armor would be somewhere beyond the pillar and around a corner.

When Scun was ten feet from the bottom of the stairs, he saw the swarm at the fringe of his vision. It seemed to be staying in one place, feasting upon the corpse of the Xorn the party had killed. Apparantly, beneath the rock-like shell of the three eyed monster, there was flesh to be consumed.

The swarm did not seem to notice him just yet.

Scun turns around and heads back up, carefully. When he gets to the group, he says "Swarm is in the way. Forget the armor. Let's get back to the beach and get off this forsaken island."

He puts his breastplate back on as well as his pack, making sure he has everything.

When Ogrin and Scun came back up without any new wounds, Mona breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness you are all unharmed. Is everyone set for our return trip to the shore?"

"Yeah, let's get out of here.", Nezrak says, sounding rather relieved. "I doubt that spider-thing has had the patience to wait for us for days, but it doesn't hurt to keep our eyes open."

After checking their belongings, the party began their trek toward the coast.

Hour after hour through the mist-covered, mud-ridden swamp merged into one mind-numbing whole. Almost nothing pierced the obscuring grey around them, while the silence was punctuated by the white noise of drizzle and the sucking soundsof boots being pulled out of mudholes. Fortunately, with wood-wise Scun leading the way, the party reached the jungle without incident.

As they crossed the fringe of trees that marked the border of swamp and jungle, the light from the sky began to dim. Dusk was coming and within the hour, night would be upon them.

Would they continue on through the night? Or find a place to camp?
