(OOC: I completely agree, but read Bront's description--Juliana didn't try to do that :()

OOC: We heard that the rat had a reach weapon in the same post Juliana died. Not much one can do to prepare for that. But seriously, that Dice Roller is a bastard.

(OOC: True. The other scary thing is those bats with wounding bites, one bite from them and unconscious characters are 100% guaranteed to die unless they get a Cure spell or a heal check--no stabilising)

OOC: ...and the ratmen just happen to be almost completely immune to them, while we cannot kill them without trying rather desperately to swing torches at them.

(OOC: Yeah...I wish we had like a level 3 caster for some kind of attack spell that would hurt a swarm. I myself could have a swarm of crystals or something at that level. Being immune to all physical attacks is scary :()

Juliana Returns From The Grave

After review with Manzanita, I agree -- barely -- that the defensive intent behind Bront's post wasn't entirely respected.

So.

We go back in time a little bit.

Bront -- the Rat Leader LongTooth just finished taunting you, your race, your courage, and the color of your underwear.

He's got a reach weapon, and a "come n get it" look on his face.

{Your PC has no way of knowing LongTooth has a "readied action" by the way, nor what it might be, so strike this from your memory.}

Beside you stands Hallidor, who is also ready for something -- something...

Hallidor speaks to Juliana -- "What.. what do we do NOW?"

What DO you do?

(Thankfully, I don't think changing your actions here effects the other PC's actions too much).

Personally, since 97.7% of the time Juliana's actions would have had no dire consequence, I don't think they were tactically unsound -- 20/18 is the real problem. But, let's move on.

Zaeryl, is it correct that you drop your ranged weapon, draw your club, and attack without moving?

When Book Knowledge Goes Bad

Bat Swarms are not immune to all physical damage. It's fine to freak out, but it's best to freak out about stuff actually occurring in the game.

OOC: See the MM errata and SRD. Oh well, maybe I shouldn't have told you that, but rules-lawyering works both ways... :\ Frankly, I'm just annoyed by the dice rolls at the moment...
