Art of Jeff Spangler thread - Freelance artist for hire

Mithril Dragon

First Post
Hi all. I am a fantasy / sci-fi illustrator new to these boards and I didn't realize until today that there is a section for artwork. I have a site for my illustrations (below in the sig) but currently the site is "under construction" while I reformat the gallery. It should be up again within a few weeks at most so please stop by when you get a chance.

Also I am going to be working on an upcoming issue of the popular "Critters" series for E.N publishing but I can't say anything more as its a bit early. If there are any other publishers out there who need a piece or two in the meantime please contact me through my site. I realize that with my gallery down its a bit difficult to get an idea of my ability level but if you check out the "open" and "under construction" pages of my site or my cafepress store (also listed in my sig) you can get an idea.

Nice to know there is a section for artists on these boards. :)

P.S. Forgot to mention ... I will be using this thread as a means of communicating with the d20 / D&D/ RPG community here. So if you have any questions or do not receive a response from my site email (I get a lot of junk mail so sometimes it takes a bit to sort it all out) please post here. Thanks.

Heh. I can see getting a dialogue going will take more than a few skulls on an open page with promises of more to come. I am currently working on a detailed piece inspired by GW warhammer 40K IP and once its finished (estimate 3-5 more days) the gallery will go back up.
I am going to be including a section on my site (time permitting) of "character sketches" that will basically be different character class/race combinations found in d20 and D&D. These "sketches" will be provided to the community at a decent res for use in personal gaming as PC or NPC visual references. Also (again time permitting) I will be taking requests for this section since I work better when given a "challenge" that I wouldn't otherwise think up.
I will let you all know when the site gallery goes back up.

Thanks for Asking

Yes ... the site is listed in my sig above. Click here to go to my site. Unfortunately I am in the middle of rebuilding the gallery. It should be up this weekend if all goes well. If you visit the site now all you will see is a skull/symbol on the open page and a "goblinoid" hauling a boulder on the "under construction" page. Not much to go by now but both are hand drawn and typical of my style.
If you click here you will be taken to my cafepress store where there are more examples of my work.

The reason that I have begun rebuilding the gallery is that I want to redirect my attention specifically toward the fantasy and sci-fi market (looooong boring story there). There will be one new large full color piece and some older work as well as a few concept pieces. And, once work is completed for the issue of E.N. Critters (pretty psyched about that) I will have a lot more to show.

But for now ... its a skull, a goblin, and whatever is up at cafepress.

Just checked out your website/cafepress store. Wanted to say....absolutely awesome. Love the humor...not to mention the darkness. I can't wait to see more of your artwork.

Thanks!

Thanks! I am trying to get everything up ASAP. I will definitely let you know when the site is "re-opened".

Here is piece I did for the "Free Character Portrait Request" thread. I realize its already been posted on that thread but (like I been sayin) I want work and I want to use this thread as a sort of ongoing "portfolio" unitl my site is back up. So here it is again. Really nice concept actually (not mine ... the characters were requested by D20Dazza). Enjoy.

I love the detail in your artwork. Its magnificent. I, personally, am not a publisher. However, I do work with one. He said something about maybe needing some artwork for a project...(although this may be several months from now...he's kind of a perfectionist).

I'll pass your thread along though.

Thanks Funeris, for both the compliments and the help. I am committed to an upcoming issue of "ENWorld's Critters" (something I am very much looking forward to doing) but it doesn't start for a bit yet (few weeks at least). In the meantime I was hoping to pick up a commission or two while I continue work on my site. When I have enough examples together I am going to submit to WOTC, Green Ronin, and Games Workshop. But for now I just want to get some more portfolio pieces under way. So, thanks again for the supportive words.
