Rathunt [Knight Otu judging]

Borkel Hardknuckles, dwarven monk

Borkel gets distracted by the loud noise Bru makes and misses the large rats approching. When he turns back around, he is completely caught off guard by the creatures.

(Borkel initiative 4)

(Since Borkel rolled a low initiative, his actions for round 1 depend heavily on what happens before his turn).

If he is badly injured (half or more of his HP lost), Borkel panics and runs away for his life towards the entrance of the warehouse (withdraw action).

If he is still quite healthy, he confidently moves up to a beneficial field position (5' step to a flanking position if possible) and attack with a swift combination of a punch and a knee hit (flurry of blows, 2 attacks, on 2 different rats if his first hit is deadly, attack 1: attack 17 damage 4, attack 2: attack 12 damage 9)

Borkel focuses his attention on the rat that's the most threatening to him, trying to anticipate his attacks (dodge bonus)

OoC: It's there between the code-blocked part and Appearance. Initiative = 17

IC: Suprise Round: Taking a quick look at the situation, Tumna turns towards the largest group of rats. She closes her eyes for a moment, and a slick, greenish and pungent layer covers the floor under the rats (psionic grease, Reflex DC 14, see the spell in PHB, from D8 to E9, 10PP left). She giggles slightly as the rats lose their hold on the floor.

1st round: Having bought some extra time before all the rats are upon them, Tumna turns towards the rat closest to her (and 5ft steps away if it is threatening her). There is an audible slap and the rat seems to recoil from something. (Mind Thrust, Will DC 14 negates, damage 1, 9PP left).

Eddy gives Bru a mean look after almost shooting him at the sound of his clumsiness. Luckily, he hears the clattering of little feet and spins back around in time to fire a shot at the rat off by itself (in square 9-H) (to-hit: 17; damage: 5)

But the rats are (probably) faster than him as they charge up (Initiative: 8). He drops his sling and readies his mace and shield. If he has time, he will take a 5' step (if need be) and pound one of the mangy creatures on the head--er, almost ;) (to-hit: 8; damage: 4).

OOC: ChefOrc, I don't know if you're doing it on purpose or not, but if you want, Invisible Castle will add your numbers so that instead of 1d20+1 getting a result like (14, 1) you will get (15). To make it do that, just change the comma between your two rolls to a semicolon--instead of 1d20+1, 1d6+3 try 1d20+1; 1d6+3 Anyway, it doesn't really matter, I guess, I was just confused when I looked at yours at first--if you're doing this on purpose, or you prefer it then please ignore me :heh: Just throwing it out there in case you didn't know.

Surprise Round

Rats Initiative: 7

Tumna creates a layer of grease beneath the rats, affecting three of them. However, being remarkably nimble creatures, only one of them loses its balance, skidding to the ground. Eddy's sling shot smashes against the rat, breaking it's head. It stops dead in its tracks.

The rats charge forth, two going towards Borkel, one towards Eddy and one at Bru. They are definitely much larger than expected, about the size of housecats.

The two rats try to snap at Borkel . Unfortunately, they both bite down upon the monk.
Attack rolls: 19 and 22
Damage: 2+3=5
Borkel has 6 hp left. Please roll Fort saves twice vs disease

The one attacking Eddy hurtles itself against his armor and only manages to damage its teeth.
Attack roll: 1

The final rat bites into Lul's leg, elicting a scream from the guard.
Attack roll: 13

Round 1

Initiative: Tumna, Rats, Eddy, Bru, Borkel, Lul

Tumna sends a mental assault at one of the rats attacking Borkel. It winges in pain at the foreign attack.

The rats attacking Lul bites and refuses to let go. The guard screams even louder. One of the rats attacking Borkel, satisfied about getting a bite in, races towards Bru, jumping on his face. However, the guard manages to dodge in time.

The rats attacking Borkel and Eddy both miss, banging against the cleric's armor and the monk, now fully alert, sidestepping the bite.

Eddy drops his sling and takes out his mace (no time for the shield). He tries to pound the rat in front of him, but the blow misses as the beast dodges the blow.

Borkel unleashes a flurry of blows, striking at the rat in front of him. He manages to strike the small creature, but it doesn't die just yet. His other blow misses the rodent.

Bru's desperate spear thrust pierces the fur of the rat in front of him, but also does not kill it. Whimpering in pain, Lul slashes out with his dagger in a wild fashion, slicing into the rat, slaying it.

Three rats left. Borkel remember to roll the Fort saves.

Borkel Hardknuckles, dwarven monk

(remember that Borkel now has his dodge bonus against one rat)

Borkel is now quite nervous. Never has he felt so far from his confortable home. His bite wounds really hurt and the sight of the foul rat saliva entering his body scares him.

fortitude saves 11 and 20

He makes a quick prayer to Sela, fights the urge to run away and unleashes a series of powerful kicks on the rats next to him (trying to kill 2 rats if possible, and looking for flanking).

flury 1 attack 16 damage 7
flury 2 attack 16 damage 5

Borkel Hardknuckles, dwarven monk

(I just looked on the invisiblecastle page that contains all my rolls, and there are rolls recorded there that I never made. I don't know if this is a problem for the DM ...)

Sensing his new friend's anxiety, Eddy says, "Stay strong, Borkel. I can heal those wounds once we've rid the world of these vermin." He then turns back toward the Dwarf and leaving his shield slung for the moment, grips his mace in two hands and attempts to kill the rat in square G - 8. Swing and . . . crap--swung too hard: attack: 10; damage 10.

With some unlady-like words, Tumna steps back (to H6) and fires her crossbow at the first rat (r1, Attack 9, damage 4, here).

OoC: Did you remember to roll Balance checks for the rats, Krug?
SRD said:
A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Balance check. Failure means it can’t move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Balance skill for details).

Yeap I did, but only one of them failed to make the check. The grey area is where the grease is. Will post updates for the next round soon.

Round 2

Tumna's bolt flies over the head of a rat and strikes a crate. The rats continue the attack. Fortunately, all three miss, one trying to bite through Eddie's armor but finding it impenetrable!

Eddie's blow wheels just above the head of the rat that tried to bite him. Bru's next thrust slays the rat that had been assaulting the guards (r1). Borkel unleashes his fury, stepping forward and striking the rats (r2 and r3) around him. The first punch pulverizes his opponent, while the next sends the remaining rat skittering into a pillar, impaling itself against a beam.

The tails of the dead rat continue to twitch momentarily. Borkel feels his body has been made unclean.

Lul screams, obviously frightened. "OkwekilledthemcanwegonowI'msoscared.." He continues plungiing his dagger into the body of the dead rat in front of him.

End of Combat

Borkel: [sblock]
Casting your eyes around where the lamp light does not illuminate, you sense something further ahead. What appears to be a still human body on the floor.[/sblock]
