Warduke Ierendi Gazetteer: Please Help!

Hey, all:

We're a pretty resourceful lot here on ENWorld- I'm hoping someone has a scan of the original artwork/placeholder picture for Gaz4: Kingdom of Ierendi that featured Warduke as the centerpiece. I thought for sure it appeared in ads in Dragon Magazine, but I can't seem to find it in any of my copies (I am missing a couple of issues around that time, though). I'm near certain it appeared as an insert in a couple of the D&D products around the time (we're talking 1986-1987).

If anyone has a scan, or knows where I can find one, please let me know! I need to know I'm not going crazy!!!!

Thanks!

Yeah- that's the actual cover. There were some ads featuring what was apparently placeholder artwork that featured Warduke in the central position, though. I've been trying to find pictures of that for a long time now. (Some of the other Gazetteers had placeholder artwork that was different from the covers as well- notably Gaz10: Orcs of Thar and Gaz9: Minrothad Guilds).

I think the Warduke piece that was on the mockup cover may have just been the Timothy Truman piece used on his action figure and in XL-1, but I'm not sure. It was a similar pose, at least.

What's the copywrite date on the Ierendi book? a bunch of people here have the dragon archive CD and could do some searching with a little narrowing of the parameters.

It's 1987. I'll see if I can narrow down when in '87 it came out, though.

(Sometime around Dragon #125ish- it's not in that issue, I have that one- but its in that vicinity)

Found it! According to my Dragon Mag Archives (CD #2), it's in issue #121, page 97.

I do NOT remember that ad! (But it sure looks cool!)

Yeah, if Demmero found it, it's easy to snag the picture... (part of an ad for the upcoming Gazetteer series in general)...

Awesome! Demmero, Delta, Voadam, thank you so much for that! Like I said, I've been looking for that picture forever- I'd almost started to think I was imagining things (not really, but I was darn surprised I couldn't find it).

It does look like they just used the Truman artwork (for both Warduke and Elkhorn) as the placeholders for that cover, though, like Whizbang says, it would have been really cool if they'd included them in it.

Having gone back recently to the Gaz while deciding on its suitability for usage for Savage Tides (which, I must note, it really fits into well), I have revised my opinion of it. There is a lot of parody, true- some of it just over the top- but there were a lot of really good ideas and concepts there. They could have used a bit more fleshing out, but still very good, IMO. It even covered a Da Vinci Code-like storyline years before the Da Vinci Code was even conceived!

Still would have been cool to see Warduke and the gang, though... *sigh*
