Pictures of our encounters

I don't have a picture of our gaming group, but I do have pix of a large encoutner from our last game. Let's see some of your encounter or "table" pix.

It was the opening scene where the PC's had left Kush (one of the Black Kingdoms of Hyboria) and had sailed up the river Styx to a point where they were to find free, unguarded loot (yea right). THey were attacked by 24 Minions of Set riding the back of the Blessed of Sobek (a big crocodile). The croc ate their boat (and the warmage) and the PC's managed to work their way towards shore. They're 15th level and it's a relatively lower magic game and they've just begun a new DUNGEON scenario that will essentially end our Age of Worms campaign.

There are a lot of classics in this scene: cardboard heroes, claymation monsters, a place on the battlemat where my daughter scribbled with a sharpie, etc. Ah, memories. I didn't have a crocodile big enough, so I used some clear plastic and stuck eyes, tail and teeth on it. THe pictures were taken with a cel-camera so they're not great, and picture #2 just looks like a pile of bodies, but you get the point. ;)

Great stuff! Looks like an epic conflict! This is a good idea, too. I happened to find a picture from an AEG playtest I did which wound up pitting a silver dragon and the PC's against a blue dragon.

OK, I love that 'table tent'. What do you use for those? That is.. a very cool thing.

These suckers have a lot of history. We dont' make new ones, we just stick new pictures over the old ones. It's like one civilization over the top of another, over another. If you dig, you can go back about 8 years and 4 campaigns worth of characters. They're weighty now too. All you need is room for the PC name/player name/race/homeland, etc. and we have people print or pick from the box a PC picture to stick there.

Originally, I just folded some cardboard with a base wide enough to stand up. On the backs, some players post charts, numbers, or pictures of their gal back home (just kidding). Every now and then I'll stick secret notes on the inside of the table tent and tell the players when to pull them out and read them..

What do you guys use? Care to post pictures of your table tents or table set-ups?

Sweet!

It only goes to show that a small investment in some tabletop shrubbery and trees goes a long ways towards making a game great. Vis a vis markers are fine..but a bit boring after this stuff :)

My pics are a little different. I run an online game and use the Gametable program to keep track of character/monster position, then I upload a pic to my website at the beginning of every round.

Pic 1: The party battles some plant people at the portal to the Beastlands in Faunel. One of the party members is engulfed by a bead of force.

Pic 2: The sorceress zooms up to get a bird's eye view of the Beastlands, noting a small encampment as well as a fort to the northeast.

Pic 3: The party battles Huge monstrous scorpions on the way to scope out the aforementioned fort.

Pic 4: The party teleports into the fort and takes the feral drow elves and their scorrow leader by surprise.

I found another one. The party battles a group of Monks who came to take one of their own (one of our PC's) back for crimes against the order...while we were peacefully resting at an inn! Multi-level effects made this particular combat really challenging.

Pizza-box stands to the rescue. :)

Brilliant, frelling brilliant!! Do the DDMs fit underneath the stands? If so I might just have to go buy a bunch of pizzas for the stands :p or just convince my group to not throw thiers out over the next week.

Cheers,
E

I have a whole bunch of pizza stands that I use for flying characters. You can even stack them ontop of each other and place minis between them for a 3d environment.

I didn't need to buy a bunch of pizzas either. Next time you order a pizza, pick it up at the shop and just ask the cashier, "This might be an odd request, but can I get a handful of the pizza box stands?"

I convinced the girl at Pizza Hut to throw a bunch of them in a Pizza Hut plastic bag :p
