Looking for an artist to draw local gaming logo

Bulrak

First Post
Down in Tucson, AZ me and my friend have started a local gaming group called Tucson Gamers. We are working on building a site (www.TucsonGamers.com) and are in need of a logo. We want to promote miniature gaming, role playing, card games, etc in our local community. Unfortunately none of us can draw worth a darn. We have this idea for a logo and we are looking for someone to draw it for us.

The idea goes like this (comical):

A saguaro cactus on the left side. A Dwarven fighter is bent over in pain because he just brushed his butt up against it. The Elven sorceress is tweezing the needles out of his butt one by one. The Human male paladin, all dressed in his shiny full plate is "roasting" because of the desert heat...(maybe he has his helmet off and sweat is just running down his face. Finally we have the rogue who is jumping for saftey because of a scorpion crawling on the ground.

The whole thing is obviously supposed to be comical. We aren't out to make money and are pretty much spending it on having the site hosted and what not, but we would definitely give credit where credit is due, and even link your site (if you have one).
T-Shirts with the logo will be made and one would be sent to the artist too!

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this!

If you are making a logo I recommend you keep it simple and no more then two or three colors at most. Use simple shapes that you'll be able to photocopy through several generations and still be recognizable and be able to print very small without it bleeding together. Use basic colors with no gradients, since that can make it impossible to print in some circumstances. Limiting the number of colors is very important since each added color increases the printing cost dramaticly. Keep in mind that with a logo, it might end up on t-shirts, hats, posters, b/w flyers, mugs, etc. It needs to be able to withstand odd ways of printing (such as stitching) and still be recognizable.

Logos and identifiers are my specialty, so this is from experience. I'm sorry to say that I have very little free time and my lack of design programs at home mean I wouldn't be a good choice to hire, hehe. I'd do it at work... but I don't think they would appreciate it, lol.

Thanks!

I appreciate your reply...You sound like you know what you're doing. I would have never thought about that stuff you said. I guess "logo" is bad word usage. We're looking for an image to place to the right of our logo on our webpage. This image would be on our T-shirt as well. Just something to identify us as we run demo's, tournaments, painting demonstrations, things of that nature. Thanks again for your words of wisdom!

Lol, yeah, I suspected you meant just an illustration, hehe. Sorry for my little speech, I give it all the time at work to my customers. Everyone wants to add a hundred elements to a logo, when normally all you really need is one or two. The line I normally drop is "I'd rather have one clear message then ten muddled ones.". Anyway... I'll get off my graphic design soap box ;).

Good luck btw :) and I think it's a good idea to get a gamer artist rather then just hiring some local illustrator who wouldn't know a d20 from a hole in the ground :).

Might want to think about hiring Claudio, if he does freelance work.

Logo

I went ahead and did a sketch for you, I'll post it on my thread when I get through cleaning it up on PSP. Its a very rough draft for now, but I'll be getting started to paint it soon. So if you've taken a look at my thread, I think you can tell that my rough drafts can be deciving, for I add more detail and fix a few things while I paint on PSP.

If you have already gained a pic for your logo, lemme know and I will continue on to other projects, for I am quite busy...;)
