D&D 4E 4e Campaign Idea: Tarras!

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
Okay, so I'm not going to convert my current campaign setting to 4th Edition (no way, no how), but I'm still going to give 4e a chance to win me over. More than likely I'll wait for the 4e SRD to come out before I even consider buying the core rulebooks.

Anyway, I've had an idea for a new campaign setting based on a map that was posted here in the art gallery forum, some time ago. The map is very nice (as you can see) and was posted for anyone to use. I immediately saved a copy and started modifying it for my purposes.

After the inital fascination of the map wore off I forgot about it for some time. Then the announcement of 4e came and I began to grumble to mysekf "I don't want to convert, yet!" and all that. So I decided I would create a new campaign for 4e, which made me think of the map and what I now call Tarras.

I haven't really thought too muh about what the world will be about, since 4e is still a long way away. And if I can't stand 4e at all, then Tarras will likely become a 3.5e world or might be converted to work with something like Iron Heroes or Grim Tales. I don't know at this point.

Anyway, I figured I's post my modified version of the map and see if I can some ideas rolling for this campaign setting. If anyone wants to comment or offer suggestions then feel free. This world is wide, at this point, with only place names and nothing else.

Cheers!

NOTE: If anyone knows who the artist who made this map is, then post his username here, so I can properly credit him. Thanks.

Well what kind of information are you looking for? I imagine you'd be starting the campaign in Chandra-Ka as that's the center of the map. It looks like a easily defensible place. Mountains along the eastern coast keeps the empire landlocked but also make it impossible to invade from that direction.

This leads me to the thought that Chandra-Ka is an old empire, lazy and decadent feeling very safe. The mysterious Charzilan Empire do the south-east bent on conquest have been held at bay for now but that can't last forever.

I can provide more if this is the kind of thing you want, or different if this isn't like you want.

Chandra-Ka is definitely the heart of this campaign, and Redin is the Imperial city, so to speak. And I'm not looking for anything specific, just some inspirational ideas and opinions.

Chandra-Ka is definitely an old empire, but it hasn't fallen completely into laziness and decadence. The Chazilian Empire is likely a nonhumanoid empire -- yuan-ti perhaps.

The Dark North is filled with warring city-state and wild-eyed barbarians. Bradin is the heart of this region, but Tiran is also important. The political names of Zain and Kildana are used mainly to divide the west from the east with the River of Bradin as the border.

Sure, feel free to post ideas and comments. That's what this thread is for.

Other notes...

The Forest of Cain is full of elves and other wilderness-based races. The Redwood is dominated more by other humanoids, but not all of them are evil.

The Torm Wastes are dominated by lizardfolk and other swamp dwellers.

Huiq, Kinag, and Voir are all dwarven cities.

The campaign hook is that Chandra-Ka is where the Lands of the West meet the Far East. Chandra-Ka has elements of both.

Cheers!
