Urn Your Pay (Rae judging)

[sblock=OOC]Trying to argue for consistency between various spell description in DND is a loosing battle, there is no such consistency. Held fast simply means held in place, there just is not another air interpretation. The sentence,

"I was held fast, but able to move twenty feet." is essentially nonsensical. I will conceed that you do have a point by rules as written, but I think the intent is clear and always has been. These sorts of quandries crop up in 3.5 books constantly, so when all is said and done its up to the individual DM. I'll hold fast here while I go to work...;):p[/sblock]

ooc: Okay, I'm gonna play the "The effects of the spell may be altered somewhat, based on the nature of the entangling plants" card and move on. No immobilization; failed save means entangled condition, made save just means difficult terrain. Feel free to continue discussion, but please take it to another thread.

Round 1, continued

Ter-raen gets up onto the table beside him and takes a step forward, swinging his scimitar furiously at the the strange looking grasshopper man! Don't look like man in painting, but still ugly! He swats the poor creature out of the air with a sqeal and a tiny splash of blood.

"Oot th' way, Fennen!" Gildrim roars, giving Erf a chance to instruct the dog.

Erf commands Fenenn out of the effect, and the dog will take a defensive stance eyeing the creatures out of his reach hungrily. The gnome then concentrates hard and begins chanting a summoning spell.

Gildrim bulls his way through the tangling fibres, dropping his sword at his feet and uncoiling his whip. With a crack, he lashes it at a grasshopper man, sending the tiny bow flying into the next room. (it's to the north two squares, in case it comes up later.)

Round 2
The first grig bleeds, its tiny wings crumpled.

The second howls, "Hey, my bow!" It draws a tiny sword and flies down to the floor, taking a swing at Gildrim on the way, missing, and landing under the table. The linen fibers grasp at it, but cannot get hold. (ooc: Gildrim gets an AoO, but I think only unarmed; the whip doesn't threaten. The grig gains cover from the table, which doesn't apply to the AoO. I think Erf would get an AoO, but not while spellcasting.)

The third flutters backwards and points a finger at Ter-raen, uttering arcane syllables. Whatever the effect is, Ter-raen shrugs it off with ease.

Erf hurries over to the fallen Grig, and if able to reach it in time casts a cure minor wounds upon the creature stabalizing it. As he moves he points to Fenenn and then at the grounded Grig. The Wolf Hound bounds forward eager to get ot grips with a foe, but in his excitement chomps wildly at the air missing the creature by a mile.

Meanwhile Erf's summoned eagle appears and at the druid's instruction attempts to bring the Grig it appears next to, the caster, down to the druid.

[sblock=Hit Touch AC 19, Grapple 14]Eagle touch attacks on spell castin Grig (1d20+3=7, 1d20+3=19, 1d20+1=2) Eagle grpple on spell casting Grig (1d20-4=14) [/sblock]

HP 25/25, AC 18

One down, two more to go. Where that one go? Under the table! Seeing that his scimitar is sharp, but not sharp enough to actually pierce through the table, Ter-raen decides to go for the other grasshopper man (G3) hovering in the corner. He leaps, and takes a swipe with his blade!

[sblock=ooc rolls and intention]
I don't know if it can be counted as a charge or not, and whether just moving one square will be enough to reduce the jump penalties... It's supposed to be a cool move anyway ~
Jump (1d20+13)=32, Attack (1d20+6)=24, Damage (1d6+4)=8
The modifiers above do not account for the boots, or the charge (if possible), just raw rolling (good rolls too!). If necessary, you could just apply the relevant modifiers to my numbers (and AC if necessary).

ooc: How is Erf communicating with the eagle to get it to grapple as opposed to just attacking? I also forgot about the new reflex saves for being in the entangle area. Ter-raen will have to make that save before he can do his flying leap.

ooc: And serow, the jump is fine, but I notice that's a natural 18, which is a critical threat with scimitar. If you make your reflex save, might as well roll to confirm that, too.

[sblock=Whoops, he cannot communicate with it, so grapple is not viable]It may be a bit of a stretch, when you use a Summon Natures Ally you can Well it turns out I was confusing Summon Nature's Ally with the Bag of Tricks which allows you to use any of the commands under the handle animal skill, I would have been using the fetch command which seems reasonable with an eagle given how they are trained in the real world. Upon checking the spell though I cannot do it at all. So if you don't mind Erf will simply not have cast the spell, since he woave known it would be completely ineffectual. From the description I guess I need to wait for creatures that can understand languages to use strategies more complex than simple attack. Or cast speak with animals.[/sblock]

[sblock=Item creation question]How would you guys price a headslot item which would give a character a permanent speak with animals effect? I am thinking around 3,000gp, using the ring of featherfall as a base. Arguably the slot makes it better, and the effect could debatebly be considered more powerful, thoughts?[/sblock]
