Yup, that works for me as well. Odd. I wonder what code they're trying to execute on their D&D main page...

I did a quick look at the page source info in the D&D Main page (Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page) and it references javascript in the html. They are making ASP calls to the database but I am not a code monkey so I don't know if there are other script languages being utilized by the page in addition to java script.

A runtime error usually means that your dealing with bad script, a older version of java issue, or possibly security settings in your browsers relating to remote scripting.

Since this is a problem that is hitting mostly German (and evidently Austrian) users, it also may be a localization issue with browsers for your language? Or, there are security measures at the ISP level that are preventing scripts from executing.

Try updating java and fiddling with the security settings in your browser (drop it down a notch each time until the site resolves).

Also, for those that are having issues hitting the site at all, here is how to run a trace route to figure out where the problem is (windows, sorry not very Mac proficient):

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type cmd in the Run box.
  3. That should bring up the command prompt, type tracert www.wizards.com/dnd.
  4. Press Enter key.
See attachment for image of a sample trace route.

You are looking for the point of failure in reaching the wizards site. If it stops you should see if it is within your ISPs routers, somewhere in between, or at the Wizards hosting site.

Beyond that, I am fresh out of ideas.

I hope that helps,

First, thanks for looking into this!
The above was my first suspicion, which is why I asked if it was a problem for Germans only.

Nationalization issues are something I'm seeing quite often, the #1 culprit are floating point numbers using a different decimal separator (',' vs. '.'). Date/Time issues are also common if databases are involved.

I'll try checking the other potential issues you've been suggesting.

My pleasure. I hate to say it, but I was supporting Netscape (before it spun off into Mozilla) back in the late 90's... I got a crash course in how many ways you can blow up a browser. I am sure there has been an expansion of that possibility since I left the salt mines of tech support.

If you can't resolve the problem from my suggestions, then i would hit the customer service page (hopefully that is accessible) and make them aware that they have a potential scripting issue on the D&D main page with German language browsers. It probably is something simple as minor error that doesn't crash English browsers, but is the death of yours.

Good luck,

it looks to me that some automatic header (such as language info) may be confusing the site. Have you tried switching your language to English before going to the site?
