No WTF? Moments

Pathfinder Core - Cleric Domains - Granted Powers
Thrown out initially by the Air Domain granting lightning powers (even when there is a Weather Domain), but why on earth (pun intended) does the Earth Domain grant Acid powers? "I worship, Irthgad, Lord of Stone and all that is solid. Now feel the wrath of his..acid?". Please do not align Elements with Energy types. A simple Bludgeoning power could have done if the power must be a damage one.

As an aside there is real science behind rocks producing acid. Any rocks with sulphides in them coming into contact with oxygen or water have the potential to create acid (depending on the levels of carbonates and and silicates (which are bases) vs. the amount of sulphides).

Perchloric acid, boric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and phosphoric acid are all examples of naturally occurring mineral acids. If you start to take the gas emissions from from breaking rocks into account you can get a medley of other acids created from reactions with water or oxygen. So if you look at it from a realistic standpoint the guy always shaping and breaking rocks would probably have to have some knowledge of mineral acids. That being said a stone fist would have still been hella cool.

I got nothing for the Air domain bit, other than maybe domain overlap. It does make sense for a master of air to have some mastery of lightning. But it does not make sense for them to have no mastery over airflow which PF Air clerics do not get from the free powers (but do get in their bonus spell list). I think ultimately it was a balance thing, lightning being more common than sonic powers seemed to have gotten the pick.

Sorry for the off topic.

I could not help but reply to your post. Very informative and i would laugh my ass off seeing a player have his cleric reel all that off in game to justify why his god of earth and stone gave him acid powers. That would be a fine gaming moment and a real WT moment :)

I see you mentioned oxygen and water in there too, so why not give them water and air powers too ;)

You have it the wrong way around: water and air also need acid. I present to you the Venn diagram of elements and energies. Yes, Earth seems to have drawn the short stick.

Maybe the Earth-Cleric can use his deity's aspect of Borax to make the enemy's whites REALLY white?
