Cloak of Invisibility coming soon to a store near you!

Airwolf

Researchers are working on just such a device. Here are some results from very early in the research.

If anyone knows more about this research I'd love to hear it.

Its fake. Notice the jacket is green. Just like they use a green/blue screen in movies and even on the local weather.

I wouldnt be surprised if it is fake at all. If he was invisibile, we wouldnt be able to see the wrinkles in the jacket.

Nah. The technology is real enough... The thing is, it's not a cloak of invisibility at all, if you read up on the tech. It has nothing to do with making an object invisible, actualy. It's a system of cameras that take pictures from multiple angles and superimpose them over specific objects. It's being developed for doctors and the like, so that they can see what is under their hands while they are working, things like that.

This is not, incidently, new. I first read about this (and saw some video footage) about 6 months to a year ago. It's no where near as cool as it sounds, and why they persist on calling it "invisibility" I'm not sure, but for what it's meant for, it has promise.

While not real invisibility, the tech could be used to manufacture
cars that have no actual windows (with the view just projected
on walls) thus making cars more durable and safe.

How interesting. You know, I had almost the exact same idea once. You could create a suit with small cameras all over it. And a camera in front would be projected onto the back of the shirt. So that if you were behind the person, you would see what the camera in the front was viewing. It would create sort of an invisibility effect.

Way cool.

Mmmm... I dunno about you, but I wouldn't feel comfortable driving a vehical that, if one critical circuit failed, I would suddenly be blind as a bat in the middle of traffic.

The last time I saw something about this, they where talking about wrapping the object in fiberoptics. that should work.

You cover the object in fiberoptic cable so that when looking at it you see in one end of the cable and out the other. It isn't perfect invisibility, but it would make for some pretty darn impressive camo.

I see these jackets and I think "Warder's cloak" from the Wheel of Time series.

Here are the camouflage tech movies:

(downloading them may be a little slow, their website is being inundated due to the press release)

invisible ball & block, jacket indoors

jacket on street

It's a neato technology, but unfortunately you have to wear a lovely head accessory for it to work.
