So your party has heard rumors of Ten Towns. What have they heard?

Anyways, when they get there let them find .....a prosperous resort town.

In the only tavern they find a grisly trophy tacked up above the fireplaces mantle - the desiccated scalp & ears of a Dark Elf.

If/when they express interest? Have the barkeep charge them a GP each to hear the tale, that inspired a legend, that's in turn provided the town a steady stream of income via tourism.

That once upon a time there were rumors of drow activity in the area. That it turned out to be true! That an old ranger went missing & a lone drow was sighted. So the good folk hunted it down with bow, spear and sword. And hunting dogs. Maybe spells as well. Or maybe the town just hired a band of adventurers to do this (because isn't that what happens when monsters are sighted?)....

Anyways, eventually cornered, the vile thing tried one last desperate trick to save its life - it claimed "But wait! I'm not evil. I'm a good drow!"
To wich the hunters all had a great chuckle (because not even the dogs believed that!) & replied "Yeah, a good & DEAD drow." Shot it full of arrows, cut off it's head, & returned to the tavern to split up the loot & have a stiff drink in memory of the towns dead ranger.

It was never determined why there was only ever 1 drow encountered. But everyone thanked the gods it wasn't more.

Many years later a bard by the name of RAS heard the tale. Inspired he went on to pen a whole series of crappy dime novels about "The good drow of the north". And thus was born the legend of Drizz't Do'urden.

And sometime after that? Fans of the series from across the Realms began trekking up to Icewind Dale....

Maybe a mix of both 2 of my party know about the FR and want nothing more then to meet the characters like drizzt. The other two are oblivious to them and could care less about famous people,

Then I think they'll be entertained by my suggestion. :)

One of the party is a rouge, with black market connections in both water deep and Athkatha and he is the one who heard the roumors about a town that is a safe haven for people on the run he talked the party into deserting the army because of recent attacks to nearby villages and as the war raged on the attacks were getting closer and closer to home, the rouge just recently lost his wife to an illness, and they failed to stop the source of the problem as well as finding a cure, but he has three daughters to think about and he can't protect them and leave to fight in a war he doesn't believe in, the Duke of Athkatha is raging war against his brother the king only because he wants the throne. So with a long road nearly behind them they are almost to ice wind Dale and seenong how the rouge's player is a drizzt fan I'm not going to ruin the chance for his PC to meet his favorite forgotten realms character. But I don't want drizzt to outshine the players either, our wizard is also a drizzt fan and he is pumpped about the chance to see him

This is the sheet used by WotC when running some convention event back when OotA was released, It might make a good starting point. Still it's been over a 100 years since D D'U lived in Ten Towns.

I don't remember which episode in particular, but in Dice, Camera, Action Chris Perkins introduces Drizzt. It is in the transition from Ravenloft to Storm King's Thunder. You might take a look at that to get an idea of how he uses him, which is basically just a brief cameo.
