Eclectic News Items: American Football RPG, Low Magic, 24-hr Online Con, Critical Role

A couple of interesting articles have popped up on the web. This is a little assorted, somewhat eclectic mix of four items that came my way over the weekend, including an American Football RPG, a new 24 hour online convention, advice on low magic, and a review of Critical Role.

I am sad Roll20CON is only on for 24 hours. 48-hour or 72-hours would be more fun and have more room for panels.

Plus, y'know, it's on a Friday. So half is a wash.

Critical Role: one of the best things to happen to D&D and 5e. And its taught me so much about perfecting the craft of a DM. Congrats to Matt Mercer & Friends.

A couple more online conventions. All the fun of a convention without the travel expenses or the con crud.

There was also an FGDaze 24-hour convention that just passed on January 9th.

They all seem to be growing, with a fair number of games being run for D&D Adventure League, Pathfinder Society, Savage Worlds and numerous other game systems. Each of these Cons features Fantasy Grounds as a tool for hosting a game or joining as a player and most are free or accessible with a free 30-day trial of the software.

Critical Role is a great advert for the hobby. Not sure what to make of WOTC going down the same path (if I read things correctly).

I wonder if Perkins is jealous of Mercer's GOAT DM praise?
