Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s gaming news! Another ancestry previewed for Pathfinder 2nd Edition, the table of contents and miniatures for Descent Into Avernus for D&D, Chuck Tingle breaks into roleplaying games, and more!
Paizo provided another ancestry preview from the Lost Omens Character Guide, this time the leshies. Leshies are nature-based Fae that resemble humanoid plants. While the comparison in the blog post brings up Miyazaki films, something tells me there will be many leshies repeatedly telling you their own name in conversation. A leshy starts with 8 hit points and gets boosts to Constitution, Wisdom, and one free boost as well as an ability flaw to Intelligence. The Lost Omens Character Guide will be available on October 29, 2019, with a retail price of $34.99.
For those wanting to get a jump on the Lost Omens setting, the Lost Omens World Guide is now available with a full preview on Paizo’s website. The post gives us an idea what to expect in the book as it talks briefly about the different locations, from Absalom to Avistan to the Eye of Dread to the Golden Road and beyond. Each location will provide new backgrounds and archetypes as well as some unique magic items. A couple of those are shown in the blog post, including the Archaic Wayfinder (a 30gp item that functions as a compass and can hold one cantrip spell inside as well as an aeon stone) and the Aldori Dueling Sword (a versatile finesse advanced sword that does 1d8 slashing damage). The Lost Omens World Guide is available now for a retail price of $36.99.
For those who don’t mind spoilers, the Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus table of contents has been released. The Amazon product page for the next Dungeons & Dragons adventure features not just the front and back cover, but the table of contents and the first two pages of the adventure. While the chapter headings and even the first page have plot spoilers as it goes into events that will happen during the adventure, I won’t be giving those away (you’ll have to look for yourself on Amazon for that). However, the adventure itself takes up 147 pages of the 256-page book and the setting information in the Baldur’s Gate Gazetteer section taking up 53 pages. There will also be rules for infernal contracts and archdevil charms, five pages of new magic items, sixteen new monsters, and seven full pages just on the infernal war machines. Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus releases on September 17, 2019, with a retail price of $49.95.
In anticipation for the release, the D&D Icons of the Realms: Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus miniature line is already hitting store shelves. The line includes 45 pre-painted miniatures sold in blind booster packs of four miniatures each (1 Large and three Small or Medium) for $15.99 each. Additionally, the massive Infernal War Machine miniature is also available for a retail price of $69.99. And in case you’re not quite done with Waterdeep just yet, WizKids released yet another massive miniature with the Walking Statue of Waterdeep. Which doesn’t sound like much until you remember the Walking Statues of Waterdeep are sixty feet tall each. And these miniatures are to-scale with standard 28mm figures. So yes, this “miniature” is almost a full foot tall with a standard PC-sized mini barely coming up to the statue’s ankle. The Walking Statue is available for $59.99.

There’s a new fantasy video game on Kickstarter, the much talked about Solasta: Crown of the Magister based on 5e OGL rules. The single-player game puts you in charge of a party of adventurers exploring a dungeon with the unique challenge of a fully 3D environment. You can’t just look left and right for threats, you have to look up and down as well as you climb or descend into the depths. A “pre-alpha” demo is available on Steam if you want a brief idea of where they plan to go with the game (features such as character creation aren’t in the demo, and many of the models/textures are most likely placeholders). Though I haven’t personally played it yet, I plan to do a live stream soon of the demo on my Twitch channel). At the time of writing, the Kickstarter already has over a quarter of their €180,000 (about US$198,000) funding goal and it runs until Friday, October 4.
The Hugo-nominated author Dr. Chuck Tingle released the core rulebook of The Tingleverse: The Official Chuck Tingle Role-Playing Game. The author of such stories as Space Raptor Butt Invasion and Seduced by Doctor Bigfoot: Attorney at Large, the good doctor has taken his talents to roleplaying games. The system allows buckaroos to create characters from four different types (human, bigfoot, dinosaur, and unicorn) and five different trots (bad boy, charmer, sneak, true buckaroo, and wizard). Sporting events at the Billings Community Center are ending in angry outbursts, and in the woods nearby, sightings of The Manifested Concept Of Rage are becoming more and more frequent. Could the two be related? An entrepreneur moves to Montana and opens up a petting zoo for creatures of The Void. Matt Corley started an IndieGoGo for the 5th Edition adventure path Harper’s Tale, with all proceeds going to charity. The outline was created by Corley’s daughter while she underwent treatment for leukemia. After treatment and her cancer going into remission, Corley decided to give back to Friends of Kids with Cancer by bringing together talent from Kobold Press to put together this ten-part adventure path taking characters from 1st to 10th level. The design team has more credits and awards to their name than I can list who have come together to bring this project to life. You can get the bare-bones no-art PDF for a $5 pledge, the full version for $15, an at-cost print version for $21, and several other pledge levels to get more exclusive goodies while helping a good cause. There’s still plenty of time to get in as this project will run for another 32 days.
If you’re looking to create your own games, Humble Bundle has a huge bundle of video courses, textbooks, and other tools to help you out with the Become a Game Developer Bundle. The courses and books, which focus on development for the Unity engine, are all up to date with the most current version of the engine and covers everything from graphic design, environments, coding, shaders, virtual reality, animations, and more. This bundle runs until Monday, September 23. And if you need a bit of inspiration for your game, Humble partnered with Dynamite Comics for a huge bundle of Red Sonja comic books. The bundle includes DRM-free digital copies of individual issues and graphic novels from creators like Gail Simone, Amy Chu, Frank Tieri, Peter David, Frank Cho, and more. This is a Kickstarter that will sell itself for a certain segment, a new Powered by the Apocalypse version of the Usagi Yojimbo RPG: Second Edition. If you’re unfamiliar with the long-running indie comic, Usagi Yojimbo follows the exploits of Miyamoto Usagi, a ronin in the Edo period of Japan in an alternate world where all life is anthropomorphic animals. This is not a comedy series, though, as it draws heavily from the works of the films of Akira Kurosawa, the Zatoichi film series, and the long-running manga Lone Wolf and Cub (though it’s understanding to make that assumption as Usagi has multiple crossovers with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles over the decades). The PDF is available for a $16 pledge and the print version for $32 (while the print version does NOT include the PDF, the PDF version includes an option to purchase the print version for an additional cost). This project is fully funded and runs until Sunday, September 15.
