A new Dungeons & Dragons adventure set in Eberron is debuting at PAX East this weekend. Wizards of the Coast has announced that D&D Eberron: Race for the Crab Temple, a new D&D adventure set in Xen’drik, will make its convention debut at PAX East. The Level 3 adventure will feature premade characters made using 2024 Player's Handbook rules along with options from Eberron: Forge of the Artificer.

As its name suggests, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer will update the Artificer class for 2024 5th Edition rules. It will also update all Eberron-specific species for the revised ruleset. The new rulebook comes out on August 19, 2025.

The full description of the new Eberron adventure can be found below:

Your group has been dispatched by Morgrave University to travel to Xen’drik and seek out the Crab Temple. It’s a race between your expedition and a rival to discover its secrets! Premade level 3 characters are provided, featuring rules from the new Player’s Handbook and first looks at options from Eberron: Forge of the Artificer!

Looks like they are doubling down

At least that glass housing doesnt look like a balloon. I could believe it is something like a greenhouse for Air Elementals.

I guess any kind of spelljammer vehicle would fit in as well?

This would be cool to me if they advanced the setting 20 years or something. Otherwise it's revisionism, which they have mostly avoided thus far.
Maybe it could be a different cultural region?

So… anyone gotten to play this Adventure at PAX yet? 👀 mostly interested in player option changes.
I played it. They supplied 3rd level pre-gen characters, but I did not see the sheet of the one Artificer character to see if anything was noticeably changed. As far as the Eberron species... I played the Shifter Bard but their shifting ability didn't seem appreciably any different than what we got in the original Rising book. I mean there probably was some slight differences for all I know, but without both version to compare and contrast there was no way for me to eyeball any differences. And as far as I could tell... none of the characters had dragonmarks either. In fact I didn't even notice if my character has an Origin feat at all.

Basically it felt no different than the characters one gets at any con game. Nothing special about the "pre-release" vibe.

Damn, thank you for the report! Was there an Artificer in your party? If so did you catch what subclass? (Mostly wondering if Cartographer and if it was effective).

There was an Artificer, but I did not notice what their subclass was. With 7 players around the table we did not get much opportunity to show anything about our characters really.
