A new Dungeons & Dragons guidebook is coming out later this year. DK Books has announced The Book of Dragons, a new guidebook featuring the dragons of D&D. The new book is written by Michael Witwer and will be released in August 2025. The 224-page book isn't a rulebook but rather a licensed book that focuses on the lore of dragons. The book is written at least partially from the perspectives of Tiamat and Bahamut.

Looking at the site and the sample pages, they have some nice images. I could see, or maybe some are already on dmsguild, someone making some of the named dragons in the book a stat block sort of like Ed’s dragon series for 3rd edition I think in dragon magazine (dragons of the north series i think).

NGL, that silver dragon full-page image is probably the first bit of nu-dragon art I've seen that I truly, unreservedly like. She isn't this hecking chonker, she looks proportionate and refined.

Still don't care for the incredibly bloody stupid "if you stretch them out they look like swords!!!" thing, but at least there's some good art coming from all this.

And the red dragon defeating the gold is pretty sad, but not "sad because bad art" so that's also an improvement. That said, I always thought in a head-to-head match, reds were weaker than golds?

Agreed. :) The Silver dragon in that pic looks way better than the 2024 version of the Bronze. I am sticking with the version WoTC used for 3e, 4e and 5e. The Amethyst Dragon looks good despite looking a little chonky.

That was definitely true in 1e and 2e. In 1e the gold was 10-12 HD and the red 9-11 HD. I am not sure about 3e, but starting with 4e the gold and red have been of equal status (one of the many things I liked about 4e) and that continued in 5e.
