D&D (2024) Best 5.5 Mechanic They Should Use More IMHO

Although I agree more monster should be virtually immune to some low level magic I'm not sure I buy the idea that it should be common for bosses.

The problem with low level control spells making higher tier bosses too easy shouldn't be "fixed" by also nerfing spells like Scorching Ray.

You have to be careful with a mechanic that powerful. The 2014 version of the rakshasa was plenty nasty already: immune to all spells 6th level or lower, advantage on all saving throws otherwise. I'm not so sure it's a good idea to make their magic resistance even stronger than that. It can be a cool chance to allow your martials to shine, but that's a concept that probably should be used very sparingly.

Actually @dave2008 had some interesting takes on improved versions of magic resistance that might be worth a look, if you like the Rakshasas immunity but don't want to spam it to every magic resistant baddie. Did you ever playtest those, Dave? Where's that thread...

What's funny is that having run so much Level Up A5E, I'd almost wish for some monsters that were more resistant/immune to martial maneuvers 😆

That sounds like it would require the monster to come up with its' own combat tradition, one built on countering one or more other maneuvers from another combat tradition. This is probably why martial PCs are proficient in more than one combat tradition. The better to keep the monsters guessing on what maneuvers your character is going use next. :p

Greater Magic resistance on the rakshasa.

Basically they automatically make their saves. Spells with attack rolls automatically miss.

Magic resistance and legendary resistance often isn't enough. Oys a bit to easy to essentially stun lock bosses with low level spells.
...

If that's the best mechanic in 5.5e, wow, that's...not a great sign.

5e 2024 strives to continue the mechanics of 5e 2014.

Any mechanical adjustments are mainly for consistency, such as standardizing the threat from each CR, often beefing up the high CRs, making a feat at level 1 that existed in certain settings now standard for core, and similar.

For the most part, 2024 is quality of life improvements.
