D&D (2024) Elemental Adept is a Bad Feat. Elemental Damage Vs Radiance Etc

So elemental Adept plus chromatic orb a 1 is treated as a 2. This effect the bounce chance of chromatic orb?
Yes, though I haven't been able to put together a formulation to get a generic result per number of dice and/or Empowered Spell rerolls yet. For level 1 (3 dice), the bounce chance is 41.4%, compared to 34.4% at default.

Came up order day. Missed tge interaction but seemed fine.

Resistance and immunity should go the way of the dodo. There is no reason o have them when weapon resistances and immunity are no longer a thing. A monk’s fist generating force damage is laughable.

OK, probabilities:
Level CastDiceMax BounceBounce %Adept Bounce %

46492.31%96.43%
57598.08%99.52%

And expected number of targets hit, excluding accuracy:
Level CastBase TargetsAdept TargetsGain
11.341.415%

32.933.2812%
44.294.669%
55.725.934%
66.957.001%

Anyway, up til spell level 4, it looks like Elemental Adept is worth about +10% damage for Chromatic Orb just by virtue of hitting that many more targets, on average. The actual damage increase from changing 1s to 2s is just +2.8%.

Agree, mostly,

monk should get ability to bypass resistance to nonmagical damage and elemental monks could add some elemental damage to their attacks.

nice description on how a dragon would be very hard for a bunch of commoners is:
resistance 5 to nonmagical B/P/S damage.
now in addition to AC20, low level archers with let's say 1d8+2 damage on bows(average 6,5) are down to 1,9 damage per shot.

Elemental adept isn't for general casters but it is for subclasses that lean into an element. An evocation wizard shouldn't grab it because they always have the option of lightning over fire or vice versa. A storm sorcerer doesn't have that option. I usually grab elemental adept on artillerist artificers because they get so many fire spells.

Sorcerers have chromatic orb as an option.
Worst case scenario it's close enough imho obsoleting the feat.

The ignore resistance portion of Elemental Adept really shouldn't be considered for the balance of the feat; that part is just to let someone play the character they wanted to play no matter what the DM wanted to throw at them. It could possibly have "deal half damage to creatures with immunity" also.

I think there should be a separate feat for each element in the vein of Crusher, Piercer, Poisoner, and Slasher. Add a rider to each element, like Slow for cold and Burning for fire.
