Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Waiting on an overdue Kickstarter? Let us know in our survey!
FAILURE!.png

We're putting together a potential article on overdue (or failed!) crowdfunding projects.

So, tell us your story. Which crowdfunders are overdue, and by how much? What was the original estimated delivery date? We've set up a survey with which you can provide us information, and we'll be using that survey to put together an article in early 2026.

We have set a 1-year limit on this--to keep this down to a reasonable list, only crowdfunders which are a year or more overdue, please! That's a year or more past the estimated delivery date listed on the crowdfunding page.

Also, please note that this is for tabletop roleplaying game projects only.

Use the link below to fill out the short survey. It should only take a couple of minutes. Please note that if you include anything in the additional comments box, you may be quoted in the article.

Note--this thread was originally started in late 2024, but the survey has been created as of 20 December 2025 for an article due to be published in early 2026.

Razor Coast by Nicholas Logue > originally touted on his Sinister Adventures website around 2008/9 and pre-orders went out for the adventures core book. Then Nic disappeared for years. He resurfaced in 2012 on the Paizo boards after Lou Agresta began a thread with a promise to try and publish Razor Coast. That finally came to fruition with a successful Kickstarter via Frog God Games some time in 2013.

That was a really powerful story. As someone who loved the Razor Coast that came out the other side.

It’s a real cautionary tale. Nicolas Logue a talented writer unsuited at that time to be a publisher who went into a spiral of alcoholism and depression from pressures of a full time job and the complexity of a massive kickstart. Though he sorted himself out and worked to get refunds to everyone who wanted one.

Louis Agresta an overall lovely man who help Nick get back on track and got the finished article out of the door with Frog God games.

I love Razor Coast I think it’s an awesome pirate setting. Really well done. Just a painful process to get there.

Compare and contrast to Gary McBride and Fire Mountain Games.

I've been generally lucky on my kickstarters, but I also tend toward backing only the digital version of TTRPG things, with some exceptions.

While there are a few that have had issues, or slow, there's only a few that have failed in part or in whole...

SpaceJammer 5E - Hardbound Support, by ArcKnight. The digital portion has been delivered, but they went radio silent afterward for months. Partly because the subcontractor responsible for the digital portion left when their part of the job was done, and partly because the ArcKnight owners lack of desire to give a concrete deadline - which kept slipping, not because the materials weren't done, but because the box manufacturing kept hitting a snag. Their last communication swore they'd be better about communicating any changes. That was in August, a year after their original delivery date. Still no word. ArcKnight standees are still apparently for sale through their site, but not responsive to emails.

Vagabond's Guide to Dalriada, as another said, this. While I followed the ups and downs of their company through updates which appeared to be caused by interpersonal issues, and individuals exiting said company. It's been radio silence for a while now, and we are 2 years past delivery of anything. Their prior short adventures were simple, straightforward and good, and I wasn't worried, but should have been concerned when they tried to have 3 large volume kickstarters at once.

Bergin's Book of Beasts - DnD 5e, from the same folks as the above, was late due to the same issues, but at least from a digital perspective delivered eventually. It was technically what it claimed to be, a volume of stats for natural animals - but was taken to it's most boring interpretations across the board, and frankly was not what I'd call a useful tome for 5E GMs or druid players overall.

Rewards & Rarities, from 2CGaming, I got a beta PDF, aka The Community Copy, essentially asking the backers to read through it and send any feedback about it for the final polished version. That was in Oct 2023, with the original delivery of everything set for July of 2022. That was the last update, and 2CGaming would not reply to any KS messaging nor to direct emails to their site. While there was some interesting stuff in said PDF, it seemed scattered, like it was unfinished, or that someone was hacking and slashing the original writers content together.

The rest of the delayed TTRPG KS or Backerkits I funded delivered. The score or so that were late were usually less that a year, were still good products, and the creators did their best to remain communicative. So, for a supebacker with 126 under my belt, I feel like I've been remarkably lucky in that regard.

Not good news for you, but good to see KS actually does something to some of these abusive kickstarters. Though its the only time I've seen this so either its random or really hard to get censured by KS.

Silver linings, I suppose. And it is good that the platform engages in some level of monitoring and response, but really that should be the minimum, even given the fact that all crowdfunding sites/systems are essentially "caveat emptor" setups. Let's call it minimum expectations met. :)

It really was a shame, too, because I liked their small scale adventures, and was looking forward to seeing what they could do on a larger scale.

Couldn't agree more. Stealing 75K from backers is bad, but he didn't take the money and disappear! He's still out there working in the TTRPG space for companies who, I can only assume, didn't do their homework before hiring him. If I recall correctly the Kickstarter was from 2014, so it's been over a decade.
Speaking of Project: Dark, just by random chance I got the opportunity to play a session that Will ran at Origins 2014. I had no idea who he was at the time, and was very disappointed that I had missed the Kickstarter. At the time, he was saying that the book would be out by the end of the year. Of course, we know how that turned out.

Overall, my experience with crowdfunding has been positive. Of 100+ projects I've backed, there are only two that I think will never fulfill: the infamous City State of the Invincible Overlord project and another for a new album by a band that I loved.

Well, perhaps the recent talk about d20 Delving here and elsewhere was the impetus, perhaps it was just time. WTG just gave us an update :)
I wanted to let everyone know that our boardgames that we ended up ordering as a proactive measure over production delays and interruption are due to arrive first part of January which means we will be able to finally ship.

We really appreciate everyone's Herculean level of patience. We know this has been a long ride full of delays. We do appreciate the support, and understand the frustrations. So this road is coming to an end thankfully.

Once they hit customs we will update, and I imagine within a couple days of hitting customs we will have them in hand, and will begin immediately shipping them.
