Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Waiting on an overdue Kickstarter? Let us know in our survey!
FAILURE!.png

We're putting together a potential article on overdue (or failed!) crowdfunding projects.

So, tell us your story. Which crowdfunders are overdue, and by how much? What was the original estimated delivery date? We've set up a survey with which you can provide us information, and we'll be using that survey to put together an article in early 2026.

We have set a 1-year limit on this--to keep this down to a reasonable list, only crowdfunders which are a year or more overdue, please! That's a year or more past the estimated delivery date listed on the crowdfunding page.

Also, please note that this is for tabletop roleplaying game projects only.

Use the link below to fill out the short survey. It should only take a couple of minutes. Please note that if you include anything in the additional comments box, you may be quoted in the article.

Note--this thread was originally started in late 2024, but the survey has been created as of 20 December 2025 for an article due to be published in early 2026.

Look. This thing has enough baggage without this kinda dishonesty.
Digital and physical arrived. Distribution too.

12 years ago it was Kickstarter, not a glorified preorder system and all the intellectual dishonesty around this is childish.

No dishonesty intended or present in my post. The project did fund in 2011, digital was released in 2023, and lots of backers did jump ship in between.

If you're a fan who finally received his copy, and you enjoy the eventual end result, then I'm happy for you. Happy gaming with it. If all you're here to do is defend Gareth Skarka, with due respect, you're wasting your breath.

Game Night Life mats. Nice product idea, failure of execution. A small number of mats were produced and shipped, but most of the options for colours and shapes never happened. Funded spring 2015, last update spring 2019.
This was one that seemed really cool, but I didn’t see the campaign until after it closed. I was fortunate in the end.

Similarly, I backed (and received most of my pledge) the Mimic’s Grid magnetic gaming tiles by Cursed Crypt, but most people didn’t receive theirs as COVID hit and basically killed their company.

Super disappointing as the company owners seemingly did what they could to keep going and their product really is fantastic. I still use mine for every session.

I haven't backed much; only 11 with one that failed to reach the pledge target. Most of what I have backed, I was fairly certain it would be fulfilled when I backed them. I did have one where I backed digital only and I wasn't really too worried if was fulfilled, I threw whatever 22 euro works out to be in NZD and then forgot about it. I'd read the updates and then promptly forget the name of it (some micro setting in a swamp).

If we're doing RPG-adjacent Kickstarters, Lasting Tales/Fantasy Series 2 was supposed to deliver in May 2022 and still haven't. Last sign of life was a post in February about getting red wax versions of some more of the minis. It appears the creator had been pyramid gaming Kickstarters (filling the holes in the previous Kickstarter with the money from the new one) and when the world went nuts around Covid, the pyramid of cards fell over.
This was probably one of the few kickstarters I’ve been burned on.

My friend backed Fantasy Series 1 and for the minis and was happy with the quality. So I backed Fantasy Series 2 on the back of that, but progress always seemed slow.

One small positive is the company that took over gave the STLs to backers for free and I own a 3D printer, so at least I can get some value out of it.

Into the Shadows
A Fate version of Call of Cthulhu. I like Fate and I like Call of Cthulhu.
I have to ask then: have you checked out Fate of Cthulhu? It's basically Call of Cthulhu meets Terminator/Twelve Monkeys: one of the Old Ones have risen and more or less destroyed humanity, but the PCs are a last-ditch effort to be sent back in time to stop the rise before it happens. Only the knowledge of exactly what happened is imperfect, so the PCs have to figure some parts out for themselves. And the mechanism for time travel is to be sent through the metaphysical body of Yog-Sothoth which inflicts corruption on those doing so (so all future PCs have some kind of weird mutation). And of course, in true Terminator fashion, they can only send back living beings – no clothes or equipment or stuff like that. The core book presents four different scenarios, and a number of others were made as PDFs as stretch goals in the kickstarter.

While It did fulfil after some delay, Call of Cthulhu 7th ed KS was such a mess it nearly sunk Chaosium as I understand it. It took outside intervention which I am grateful for. As far as I can tell, the company is thriving now and the 7e version is probably my favorite.
Yeah, I backed that one at the Horror on the Orient Express Kickstarters. Both ended up delivering, but there was a lot of uncertainty.

I have not. Though the time travel part isn't my cup of tea. Time travel works well on film. In a rpg not so much imo.

And the kickstarter I backed was started way before Evil Hat's game.
