This week, this column reviews 5e, DCC, OSE, and original TTRPG projects crowdfunding on Kickstarter and Backerkit.
For my first article of 2026, here's a crowdfunding sampler of campaigns that close between January 29 and February 11. There are 5e, DCC, OSE, and more options for your gaming table.

Old-School Adventures & Pinball Crawl Classics!.png

Old-School Adventures & Pinball Crawl Classics! from Goodman Games
  • END DATE: Feb 11, 2026 at 3:00pm EST.
  • CROWDFUNDING ON: Backerkit
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) and Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition
  • PROJECT TYPE: Adventures
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $47.99 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of the book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This Backerkit crowdfunding offers 6 distinct adventures, one for 5e and five for DCC, with the DCC adventures coming from an interesting bit of source material. First up is Old-SchoolAdventures #1: Ruins of the Twilight Marches for 5e. A dwarven stronghold needs to be cleared of “malevolent furies that rally dark armies to their side.” For the other five adventures, you’re getting quests inspired by pinball machines like those that featured in the arcades of the 1930s until video games appeared – Gorgar, Swords of Fury, Embryon, Cosmic Gunfight, and Centaur. All of these classic pinball games are adapted into Dungeon Crawl Classics adventures using restored artwork from the pinball cabinets. Available in clamshell boxes, these look like they’ll display nicely with their great vintage artwork. If you’re a fan of Goodman Games’ style of gonzo adventures, this Backerkit campaign page includes previews of the projects so you can decide if these are right for your gaming table.

If you’re a fan of 5e and Percy Jackson’s setting and don’t mind the serial numbers being rubbed off so it's more "generic" Greek gods, check out this Kickstarter for a free digital preview.

The Candy Caper- A D&D Heist One Shot.png

The Candy Caper: A D&D Heist One Shot from Severed Studios
  • END DATE: Thu, February 5 2026 8:59 AM EST.
  • CROWDFUNDING ON: Kickstarter
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition
  • PROJECT TYPE: Adventure
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $5 for the PDF and VTT of the book
  • AI STATEMENT: “We firmly believe in paying human artists to create the visuals for this project, so in addition to not using any generative AI to write the ANY of the content in the supplement, AI will not create any of the artwork!”
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Do you need magic candy? In this heist adventure, your party needs to break into a gala at a candy factory and make off with candies that provide random magical effect, possibly even a Wish. For 5e characters levels 5 to 7, this scenario is fun and sugary with enough challenge that you’ll need to embrace some heist tropes to pull it off. The artwork by Meeshau provides fantastic cartoon vibes that elevate the simple idea of taking candy from candymakers. Does your game need a sweet adventure? This Kickstarter is worth a taste.

Dogs of War Bestiary for Shadowdark RPG.png

Dogs of War Bestiary for Shadowdark RPG from Dead Hawk Publishing
  • END DATE: Mon, February 2 2026 1:31 AM EST.

  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? In the middle of December, I covered the first version of this campaign before it was canceled. There, I said: “This third-party Shadowdark RPG sourcebook offers 120 monsters. Better than that, these are themed around an idea: war, which means fighters, battle casters, and worse. You’ll get a variety of fantasy monsters ready to march into battle. This is a digital-only offer so you’ll get the book and VTT tokens. If you’re a fan of Shadowdark RPG and bestiaries, then this Kickstarter may speak to you.”

See you in two weeks.

There was a recent KS campaign for a Transformers-based 5e game. Successfully funded and shipped.
I would be more scared of Disney than Hasbro, but still, wild.

It feels like Kickstarter is going to eventually get smacked around by IP holders, since Section 230 protections won't apply, since I believe they vet and approve every project before it's made public, meaning they have employees who know -- or should know -- that they're enabling copyright violations.

Not sure who got smacked by who but a year or so ago I backed a KS for STL files that featured a R2D2 droid, Sorting Hat, and Tower of Sauron. Presented as dice towers but also featured a display file set as well. KS completed and I received the files. Sometime later I checked for updates in case the creator was running a different KS and the thing had been marked as withdrawn due to IP issues. Don't remember the exact wording.
