What kinds of games do you like, and why?

I like games where I don't have to think, and preferably ones we've played often enough that we don't have to look up the rules.

Favourites include Celestia, Escape from Atlantis, Jamaica and Carcasonne.

You don't have to read cards or anything like that.
I couldn't stand those games. 2AM, hammered out of my mind. I'd get roped into a game of hearts, or spades, that sucked. Now I'm holding 1/4 of the deck, trying to smoke a cigarette, drink a beer and look after my cards. ICR which game but on some you had partners and had to make books. I can't even look after myself let alone communicate to another human being to try and beat two other people in a game of cards, which by now is 4AM. The 90's were good times...

Note: this is in Geek Media because I am interested in folks' preferences beyond RPGs. This thread is about RPGs, but also board games and card games and video games and all the genres and sub genres within those media.

So what sort of games do you like? Not just medium wise, but genre and subgenre wise? What about those are appealing to you?

For example, I love deckbuilders. Not Magic or whatever, but Clank! or Slay the Spire or whatever. I really like the process of picking cards and building your deck over the course of each play. I am not interested at in "the meta" or other prep or mastery based deck games. I like the ephemeral nature of building a deck in play and making it work for you.
I like all sorts of games, from games using a standard deck of cards, to trading card games, to video games, to board games, and on to RPGs.

I agree about deckbuilding games. Lost Ruins of Arnak and Dune Imperium are other good deckbuilding games. I also like worker placement games, so those two also hit that note as well.

Video Games
<--- My avatar is a pretty obvious clue that I like JRPGs the most, especially Final Fantasy and its many, many clones. But I like all RPGs...from the grim and gritty ones like Dark Souls, to the pop-fantasy ones like Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, and The Elder Scrolls, to cute and cozy ones like Stardew Valley.

But it's not all RPGs, all the time. Lately I've been getting into roguelikes, action platformers, and deckbuilders from smaller indie publishers...games like Slay the Spire by Mega Crit, Hollow Knight by Team Cherry, Don't Starve by Klei Entertainment, Hades and Bastion by Supergiant, I could go on.

(And as a side note, I don't consider Visual Novels and Interactive Novels to be "games," even if they are frequently sold on Steam. Even so, I read a lot of them...especially the ones that have multiple endings, twists, and fun mini-games.)

Board Games
When we have company over, and they don't want to play RPGs, we usually reach for one of the dozens of board games/card games on our shelf. Dozens, plural...far too many to list here. Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Splendor, Dominion, Scythe, FLUX, Exploding Kittens, seriously we have so many.

CCGs
Okay, here is where my library is the weakest. I only play one collectible card game, Magic: the Gathering. But I play a lot of it. I have thousands of cards and dozens of decks that I've built over the last 30 years, including some very expensive cards that I got as gifts (and they have only appreciated in value). My favorite deck at the moment is an artifact lock-and-burn, but I also really enjoy my blue-white indestructible illusion deck. Or my blue-green merfolk stomp deck. Or my scarecrow commander deck. Or my "hot chomp" mono-red vampire deck. Or...
