Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

Navarro was an Diana Jones Emerging Talent Award Winner.

Wizards of the Coast has hired yet another D&D game designer - this time UK-based designer Taylor Navarro. Navarro announced that she was joining the D&D team this week on BlueSky. Navarro notably was a winner of the Diana Jones Emerging Designer Award back in 2024 and has worked for Ghostfire Gaming and Evil Hat in addition to working on several DMs Guild projects. Some of her most notable works was contributing to the DMs Guild publication Journeys Beyond the Radiant Citadel and publishing Not Yet: A Romantic Duet TTRPG.

Navarro is the fourth D&D game designer to join Wizards of the Coast in recent weeks, with James Haeck, Leon Barillaro, and Erin Roberts also announcing that they've joined D&D in a similar game designer capacity. Additionally, Justice Ramin Arman was promoted to Game Design Director of the group.

I suspect you guys are talking about different adventures.

There is a carnival-based adventure in Zinda and, separately, an American South analog horror adventure in Godsbreath.
Zinda is probably the most USA based setting in Radiant Citadel, with it's obsession with material wealth. The carnival that features in the adventure is more like a 4th July parade than Mardi Gras.

It's a setting and an adventure that I'm not keen on, and wouldn't use myself (my players would probably choose the other side to the one they are supposed to).

Godsbreath/Written in Blood is great though.

As I understand it, Calimshan was not in Greenwood's original FR and was largely created by Doug Niles when TSR bought it.
That's the Moomshae Isles. Calimshan was in his world, but it was more of a loose idea and a name on the map ("Here there be 1001 Nights"). It was later fleshed out by TSR in fairly pedestrian Orientalist manner, not a highlight of the worldbuilding of the FR (which is pretty much just Waterdeep, the Dale lands, and the Sword Coast, the rest were vague ideas).

That was the Moonshae isles. Tethyr, Amn, and Calimshan were part of his world.

Moonshaes were a separate setting made by Niles that Jeff Grubb i think added in there. Funny enough Darkwalker on Moonshae was the 1sr FR novel.
 


Have you read more than a single paragraph describing Calimsham's approach to capturing the Golden Age of Baghdad under the influence of genies written by someone who is both an expert in Middle Eastern Cultures and RPGs?
I'm not familiar with 5.5e Calimshan, but the proper equivalent of the Golden Age of Baghdad with actual genies is Huzuz, the City of Delights, the Gem of Zakhara, and the seat of the Grand Caliph.
 




The 3rd edition book is fairly vague as well. I suspect the "contradictions" that worry a few people come from the novels.
I think most people inclined to use the Setting at the table don't care, since table canon will inevitably diverge anyways and many are taking the material to file off the serial numbers anyways. I never had trouble mixing SCAG and the 3E book, my Fri nds and family are not FR lore scholars.
