OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

I've read several OSR editions, looking for the right balance of classic D&D with a mix of the best from AD&D. Dragonslayer wins hands down. Nothing comes close. This is far more than a few house rules tacked on. This is an excellent edition in its own right and something no one else has even come close to. It has enough detail in the core rulebook to use it for the rest of your life but lacks the technical pieces of AD&D. Arguably the best the version of D&D on the market. I'm not a fan of the cancel culture so most of the comments in this thread are irrelevant. If you want a great game, play Dragonslayer and let the work speak for itself. I don't know what the guy believes, but everyone has a right to their own beliefs and free speech. The comments above are just toxic and should be deleted for being libel. Hate speech denouncing individuals should not be tolerated on any forums.
Not on board with the deletions of posts; everyone's opinion are important to me, even if I disagree with them.

Happy you like the game as much I do though. I'm no fan of the creator on a personal level, but it's clear to me this was a massive effort and his love for AD&D shines through. For anyone who was a fan of Labyrinth Lord, I think this is an upgrade in every way.

I swear, the people that complain about cancel culture and the ones who keep saying how ACKS or this game are awesome is a near circle. Coincidence? Makes me think people don't really care how good or bad a game is, if they align with the creator's politics then it's the best thing since sliced bread.
It really is the opposite. As long as it's a good game/movie/novel/song/etc., I don't care about the creator's beliefs. I feel like most people can understand just because someone talks about a Prince album here doesn't mean they support his publicly, anti-progressive stances. Same goes with TTRPGs.

So maybe give us the benefit of the doubt before assuming the worst?

Funny enough…the guy that ran the game for us had several books. Told the creator he was running at a con and the dude was a bit of an a-hole per the game
Master. Funny. Not wise to be a douche to your fans if it’s a true account! Not everyone separates the creator from creation.

I do, or I would be living in a box without music art and literature I like…

To each their own I guess…

Except one: the author of Labyrinth Lord doesn't collaborate with someone who has literally advocated throwing acid in womens' faces.

Macris is problematic enough on his own. His association with Day makes him downright toxic.

Edit: forgot that Greg Gillespie authored Dragonslayer, not A. Macris. My bad.

Possibly. But the two games you've shilled for the most is this one and ACKS. There are a million OSR games out there, so to choose those two? Maybe it's nothing. But it looks weird. Just say'n.

I think it might seem that way just because they get the most attention. For instance, games like Fever Knights, Dante's Inferno, or Quest for the Lost Pixel that I post about just kind of pass by without notice. As a more popular counterpoint though, I was one of the first here to gush over Shadowdark. Hopefully Hackmaster will be just as popular when more news comes out too. 🤞

Anyways, those are just the threads I started. Trust me when I say I can't shut up about a million other games too.
