    D&D 5E Monster Manual Question.

So there are templates for making PCs into half dragons or vampires, or are those just for other monsters? Yeah, I figured the DMG would have a lot more - just wondering if they had put any of it in the MM as well. Seems like they're trying to be more organized, which is fine (but means we'll...

    D&D 5E Monster Manual Question.

Thaumaturge Sorry to steal the thread but I was also wondering if there are any more playable racial options for players in the MM? Like the deep gnome or duergar that were oddly specifically mentioned and left out of the PHB?

An idea to make the game feel lighter

I believe the exact opposite of this. I think by listing all the things your character can do on your sheet you are severely limiting what your players think about their characters being able to do. There is no "swing from chandelier" skill on my sheet, so I tend to forget I could even do that...

necromancer at level 1: unlife spell

Not at all! Seems like an interesting project.

    D&D 5E Let's list the "broken" spells

Wall of Force is a pretty amazing "shut you down" spell; it takes 1 opponent completely out of battle without a save. However it does require concentration, and whatever is in it is immune to you doing anything to it while it's in there, so it's not an auto-win - but it'd be a great move...

    D&D 5E Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

As others have noted: it's not really the fact that druids at level 20 have infinite HP (and Mouseferatu had a good response to that). It's that other classes just don't seem to get quite as much by comparison. Then again: haven't seen it in play (and likely never will).

D&D 5E Someone In the art department...

I don't understand this argument. Giving them a class option to have an animal companion isn't a power boost.

    D&D 5E Let's list the "broken" spells

Contagion vs. Power Word Stun: Melee touch attack + damage each round to stun, BUT creatures get disadvantage on their save to stop the disease, which is pretty nice. PW Stun is a 100% chance to work on a valid target (150 HP or less) at range (60'), and then they get normal saves each round...

    D&D 5E Let's list the "broken" spells

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but any thread about broken spells should probably include Animate Dead. On its own, it's actually pretty lackluster; carting around 4 CR 1/4 skeletons in exchange for a 3rd level spell slot (level 5+) is pretty weak. The real trick is when you're a bit...

D&D 5E Someone In the art department...

The other druid picture features a druid with an animal companion as well. The druid (and the sorcerer and ranger) are sorely lacking in class options, but the druid seems particularly shallow due to the lack of a major class feature - especially in light of the ranger getting a class option...

D&D 5E Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

This is the main issue with the "taking 20" variants people are mentioning. If you just assume someone will get it eventually, then all manacles are 100% pointless, and the normal locks you can buy are 100% useless. Why would anyone use a normal lock on an unguarded dungeon door if literally...

D&D 5E Thread: Your thoughts on the 5th. Edition Player's Handbook classes?

Really happy that some classes got lots of options, or at least three distinct and interesting options. Disappointed that the druid, ranger, and sorcerer (anyone else?) got the short end of the stick with only two options. Each of these classes really needed more options.

D&D 5E (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

D&D 5E (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

One other thing that might be interesting is how much Pathfinder outsold D&D 4.0. PF is still a pretty strong brand in gaming stores and they are still diversifying further with card games and a movie. WotC is and always has been the 500 lb gorilla but with 4.0 they gave up their market and...

    Aasimar for D&D 5th

Very nice! I like it. Nice flavor and good ability and spell selection. I agree with the above suggestion to change their resistance to necrotic or possibly even radiant + necrotic. Tieflings get fire resistance, which is pretty huge. Necrotic would be also fairly huge. Radiant damage is -...

    D&D 5E Firing Into A Melee

It seems like an incredibly tricksy bit of rules minutia that a rule for firing into melee would not be mentioned anywhere except in a piece of a sentence in the cover rules. Anyone wondering simply, "can I fire into melee with my archer" wouldn't likely notice that and play happily away until...

necromancer at level 1: unlife spell

Because it's a completely valid name for D&D 5.0? I'm kind of surprised you're the second or third person to bring it up as a question. All I can come up with is that I suspect people who started with different editions (especially 4th) may be more comfortable with using the word "edition" in...

    D&D 5E The Flumph!

That... would actually be awesome! Although the spell itself (Find Familiar) is explicit, and it pretty much only gives you access to CR 0 creatures. Even the warlock upgraded version is explicit, although it gives you up to CR 1 creatures, so this might be something you could trade? Maybe if...
