    D&D 5E Limited Wish - Money Maker?

To OP, You have Heroes' Feast and Mass Suggestion. Sounds like you're opening a Michelan Star Diner.

D&D 5E Which monsters would a lone 20th level character struggle to defeat?

Anything with paralysis can take out a single player, if they can last long enough to throw enough of that at the PC until they fail a save, you've basically won. Free crits until it wears off.

D&D 5E NPC party competing with PCs

For this rival team, I stated proper full characters (at slightly worse than player stats). If I were to do it again, I'd try using NPC stats (agent, hunter, etc) as far as that was useful. That's tough past level 4 or so, though.

D&D General So what colour are your dwarfs and elfs?

Dwarves, if subterranian, should be very pale and preferably blind. I've always been fond of avian elves - harsh sharp features and bright colors either from actual hair color or decoration.

D&D 5E NPC party competing with PCs

I made a rival NPC party in a campaign before. In their first interaction, the rivals were trying to accomplish the same goal (hunt a monster for prestige) which became a wild attempt to kill steal each other and was a lot of fun. I would be hesitant with more murderhobo players, though who...

    D&D 5E A Character That Absorbs and/or Nullifies Magic?

Barbarian Subclass: Iconoclast 3rd level: Damage reduction while in a rage vs. Spell effects (like Bear Totem, but only spells). 3rd level: if you strike a caster maintaining concentration, the caster has disadvantage on the constitution saving throw. 6th level: While raging, add your...

D&D 5E 5e Triple Move- Way? Or No Way?

Somewhat off topic, but that rogue movement makes for excellent annoying mini-bosses around level 2 if the party doesn't have a rogue. Slippery Sam carried quite a few bottles of Alchemist's fire on him, and prefered to end every round about 70 feet from everyone else. Boy were my party happy...

D&D General Fantasy Racism in D&D

I mean, part of a "good" god are tales of protection, which often means violence. Even ignoring the violent world of DnD, good gods in human history might have called for extermination and violence within that religion. There's a level of contextualization that could make such statement...

D&D 5E What's the largest number of PCs you've had in a session?

I've DMed a group of newbies numbering 7 - it was fine as it gave everyone time to read their sheets and hide in the background when they wanted. Wouldn't do it with regular players though. I played in a game with 8 or more players before - 3.5 only. Some were okay, others weren't. Mainly...

    D&D General Outrageous Accents

I hesitated to bring this up on a couple of similar threads but I think the conversation here is pretty good. I do a wide range of European and American accents without a second thought. I put in some effort on particularly marginalized groups (i.e., American Southern as uneducated, Romani as...

D&D 5E If not the word "race", what word instead?

I quite like "kin". It has a familial feel, but is more sterile than family but less sterile than blood. It's also one of those words I rarely hear outside of fiction books. Nation, heritage, culture, are a bit off for me. A human raised by dwarves makes these feel a bit off. I was always fond...

D&D General Classic adventure, dragons and knight...

You know what I haven't done in Dungeons and Dragons in a long time? Gone through a dungeon and killed a dragon... I'd say most 5e modules as written assume the party is a ragtag group of murderhobos fueled by lust for blood and gold above all else. They could be flavored to improve that, for...

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

This thread: big oof. I'd say it's worth mentioning that part of the 'heritage' of DnD is that it was often a place for the socially rejected (bullied, nerds, goths, queer) to express and experiment socially during middle/high school. DnD is not only a hobby for adults, it's also a game for...

D&D General Fantasy Racism in D&D

I'm currently running a game in Al-Qadim and having a great time not having bigotry around. I tend to make everything have motivations in my game more than "driven by internal evil", and I do this because I feel uncomfortable with "goblin=bad" style games. I wish this were from a high horse...

D&D 5E Magic Items for a Monk Character?

Brass Knuckles. +1 to attack and damage for unarmed strikes. Be careful with equipment for monks. In their class features they get just about everything that thematically works for them (slowfall, movement, etc.) It's easy to give them an item which is actually a later class feature.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

I feel the heritage of DnD can be safely ignored. DnD has had setting shifts, rules rewrites, and description changes along the way. Kobolds became lizardy, Firbolgs became naturey, etc. So I feel changing specifics to help inclusivity is not a problem - even moreso, it's in keeping with DnD...

    D&D 5E Best 5e Adventures for Kids v Adults

ToA is fun for those of us with a lot of DnD experience - I think it would give an incredibly bad impression to either group if they're new. For the kids, I would have them run it as different PCs - perhaps any NPCs which annoyed them earlier so they have a deathwish going in, and let them know...

D&D 5E Magic Items for a Monk Character?

I tend to give monk players items to help with HP - as they're a front-liner with 1d8. (A couple casts of False Life equivalent is really nice, for example). LMoP has a ring of protection, I believe - +1 to AC and all saves. Ensure the monk gets it as it's just about the only thing they can use.

D&D General What are your media sources of inspiration

I'll try to avoid stuff if I know my players/fellow players are reading/consuming that stuff. So Game of Thrones/aSoIaF get booted from my watching/reading list. I find it hard to not take inspiration from whatever I'm currently consuming. -Dune -Helliconia Both have helped a lot in imagining...

D&D 5E Input Needed on Attack Roll Concept

This also makes attack spells way better than save spells. A lucky flaming bolt could drop somewhen when a fireball wouldn't.
