D&D 5E I sing the praises of the Champion!

Well, maybe. I remember when the 3.5 Warlock came out, I loved it. It was basically an at-will ranged attack using magic dude (maybe like Cyclops from the X-men) with a few extra at will/permanent effects you could choose from a list; that said, at higher levels you could lean into it being a...

    Advantage vs. bonus?

Don't elves start with proficiency in Perception, and Half-Orcs with proficiency in Intimidate, and Goliaths with proficiency in Athletics? So for a new race that is good at Acrobatics, I would go for proficiency.

D&D 5E I sing the praises of the Champion!

I doubt it is the most powerful choice out there, but I love it. I have a young child and very little time to game. When I am gaming, I am often tired. It is very nice to have a very simple option (indeed, if I choose "Defense" and "Duellist" and stay "sword and board" I don't have to worry...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Harder still when you coach it in terms of violence. Assuming that was not internet tough guy smack talk, I find it odd that violence would be your go to response. You probably know that there are other ways to defend yourself against accusations and getting yourself kicked out of a con, and...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

I can't help noticing that once again some posters seem far more concerned about hypothetical false accusations than about real harassment. Let's take this apart some more. You were worried about some scenario where you have saucy sexy talk with your wife in public, and someone calls you out...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

There is such a thing as unconscious racism (and unconscious sexism), and privilege that can lead one to be blind to unconscious racism (and unconscious sexism). I am not claiming that Gyax was dressing up in a white hood or burning a cross on his lawn, or even that he was consciously thinking...

Also, it is really hard not to see the black skinned evil Drow elves and not think it racist.

I disagree. Trolling may or may not occasionally serve good purposes, but toughening people up is not among them. Indeed that seems instead to serve the toxic masculinity that can lead to sexual harassment.

So that would be the rule that Larry broke.

Larry can still discuss all of those things on his blog without going to the con in question.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Once again, free speech protections exist only to protect against a government shutting it down. There is no requirement to tolerate it by a nongovernmental entity on a private forum or a private party. A con can disinvite people just as a messageboard can threadban people. Correia was...

There is no reason to tolerate the intolerant.

I don't see why inviting him is required to address his actions/involvement in the Sad Puppy debacle. After all, (to get back closer to this thread's topic) we don't usually need to invite sexual harassers to a Q&A in order to address why sexual harassment is bad.

I would. And it would be because of that, not because of his minority status.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

What if the accusations are true? Would that change your mind or is minority status a get out of accusations free card?

Also, it is quite possible to be a member of a minority group while targeting another minority group and/or harassing women. Both of those activities should get one booted from or banned from a con for safety and other reasons, regardless of one’s minority status.

    Avenger's Infinity War *Spoiler* Discussion

Actually I have at least one friend IRL and a few message board folk that liked it being the story of Thanos and got a movie where the villain wins.

    Avenger's Infinity War *Spoiler* Discussion

Interestingly, it seemed that Thanos's original "half-off sale" actually worked on Gamora's home planet (at least, that is what Thanos said in IW). This was when he had to do things the old-fashioned way, pre-Snap. Anyhow, I liked the movie a lot. I look forward to the sequel next year. Hmmm...

I am paranoid enough that when enworld went down for a little while today I thought it might have been due to hackers angry at the existence of this thread.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Another idea is to make sure that little children and their parents are treated with respect at cons. Way back in the day when I went to a con (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) I was part of a game where a baby nearby was crying and the parent took the baby out and the GM lost his temper and...
