Pathfinder 1E Pocket Pathfinder - why can I read Bestiary 2 but not Core?

I was wondering if there is a difference in font size or colour or background colour or something. Because despite my middle-aged eyes I can read the pocket edition of Pathfinder's Bestiary 2, but I have trouble reading the pocket edition of the Pathfinder core book. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Poison in literature and in gaming

Part of the difference (in d20, at least) is that even non-heroic characters (the 4 hp commoner, for example) cannot die from many poisons (str/int/wis/dex/chr poisons for example) but can certainly die from a fall off of a 500 foot cliff, or even a successful long sword attack. Poison seems to...

Poison in literature and in gaming

Sometimes. But even a 1 hp commoner in 3.x can't be killed by Dex poison, for example. He can, at worst, be rendered immobile (but still conscious).

Poison in literature and in gaming

In fantasy literature, there are many tales of poison that, either slowly or quickly, will kill its victim. The poisoner in Best Served Cold, for example, is very effective at killing people outright (and often within moments) with the slightest drop of poison, rarely needing a weapon at all...

Pathfinder 1E Acid and Earth - should they break up?

I noticed that there is a loose association with Acid and Earth in Pathfinder (Earth domain clerics get Acid Dart, Stone Oracles can get acid resistance, earth school elementalist wizards get acid cloud, the Oread race gets acid resistance). But this is not always the case (deep earth sorcerers...

Small size campaign (gnomes, halflings, etc.).

I was wondering what, if anything, would be different if I ran a campaign with the rule that all pcs must choose a character that is size small (so gnome, halfling, etc.). One change is that mounted combat might become more common, because medium size mounts can get to places where large size...

The 7th Dimension: Inner Plane Probability Lines

In Unearthed Arcana, 23rd level Hierophant Druids get, among other things, the ability to "roam Inner Plane Probability lines (the 7th Dimension)". What does this mean? Was anything ever done with this in any TSR product or clone?

    Bards and Hierophant Druids

Alas, the chance of me playing that at all is remote these days.

    Bards and Hierophant Druids

I still have an idea for a 13th level assassin/14th+ level illusionist "deep cover" dual-class build.

    Bards and Hierophant Druids

It surprised me too. And here I thought I knew what there was to know about the 1st ed. Player's Handbook. To be fair, the Hierophant Druids come out in a separate book, but it is curious that Bard and H.Druid top out at 23rd level. I could see a 23rd level NE bard as the BBEG of a campaign...

    Do bane weapons stack?

Does a +5 bane (evil outsider) weapon become +7 when attacking a demon?

    Bards and Hierophant Druids

Well under the description of Bards it does say: "The bard gains druidic powers as a druid of the same level, with the exception of druidic spells as explained below." So, you know, changing into animal forms, etc. are already part of the druid package.

    Do bane weapons stack?

I have a weapon that is +1 bane (evil outsiders) and bane (chaotic outsiders) and I hit a demon; what happens? I have a holy, axiomatic +1 weapon and I hit a demon; what happens?

    Bards and Hierophant Druids

Bards in 1st ed. are said to get all the abilities of Druids (except that the spell list is different, notably lacking in 6th and 7th level spells). But with Unearthed Arcana, the druid can become a hierophant druid, which gets some nifty elemental abilities. Do high level bards also get those...

    Servants of a Sapphire Hierarch

Sapphire Hierarchs are listed in Magic of Incarnum. Among the fluff is the idea that they have some servants attached to them via the cult (these are lawful characters - fighters, monks, wizards, soulborn, clerics, incarnates, etc.). So I was wondering what sort of adventures would be suitable...

Fun with Craft Arms and Armour

I have an idea for a Sapphire Hierarch with the Craft Arms and Armour feat (originally so that I could make axiomatic weapons). But it got me thinking: what else can I do with this feat? I know I can make other magical weapons and magical armours, but is there anything I should be looking for in...

What if the only 4 alignments were NE, LN, CN and NG? (No true neutrals).

Ok, taking a trip through the MM for 3.5 (and wiping out races/monsters of other alignments, even if it just says "usually" or "often"). . . Allip are still around for mid-level undead, Angels, maybe Animated Objects if I allow non-sentients (Int -, 1 or 2) as the only true neutrals, Ankheg (I...

D&D 5E What if the only 4 alignments were NE, LN, CN and NG? (No true neutrals).

What makes me think this is that I would be personally eliminating LG, CG, LE, CE and some TN monsters from my campaign (rather than just changing their alignments) if I get around to this homebrew setting I have cooking in the back of my brain that inspired this question. I think it might lead...

Pathfinder 1E Hobgoblins - the fluff doesn't match the crunch

Hobgoblins are described as "burly and muscled" in the advanced race guide, as well as "Tall, tough as nails, and strongly built". Taller than what? Goblins? The Bestiary says they are 5' tall and weigh 160 lbs. Militaristic, war-loving, etc. OK, fine. They are meant to be lawful, disciplined...

D&D 5E What if the only 4 alignments were NE, LN, CN and NG? (No true neutrals).

I think part of it is that so many monsters were invented during a 5 alignment system (LG, CG, N, LE, CE) that it would be interesting to see a campaign that doesn't have those particular monsters. For one thing, many dragons (all the standard chromatic/metallic 10, for example) wouldn't...
