D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

That was Cobalt's idea. Piratecat was nice to allow it -- he's let us know that such use is likely to destroy the bags by the end of the encounter, and it reduces the wearer's speed by a square, but it's still totally worth it. That does remind me of something that occurred to me in the game...

Aravis (who plays Toiva) can give you the definitive answer on that, but my sense is that her stance* is "didn't care much." For one thing, these creatures had stolen a baby with the intent to eat it. For another, Toiva is not a typical "high falutin' morals" kind of paladin. She is very...

Here's my write-up. This was a longer and more complex game than the previous ones, so I encourage other players (and Pcat) to post corrections and additions. Holy cow... tonight’s run was nine kinds of awesome. Finally we had some big combats – two of them – against packs of “dog gobblers.”...

I think it was 22 points (whatever the standard PH point-buy number is), bumped to 23 for inventing Deities, as Aravis says. Piratecat has a die-rolling app for his iPhone, and we were goofing around rolling some huge amount of d6's. I think it was more than 20 -- it was a number that made it...

A few more stats, because I can't stop myself: I think this is unusual (though I lack the experience to be sure), but the party has a higher average Ref defense than AC defense. Average AC: 15.4 (Toiva 18, Logan 16, Cobalt 16, Elijah 14, Stron 13) Average Fort: 14.4 (Elijah 16, Logan 15...

I don't see what Sepulchrave has to do with any of this. :)

Yeah? So? Er, I mean, not that it was me necessarily. It could have been anyone. But still: so? Wanna make something of it?

dm's, be honest: how often do you make mistakes?

"Comedy of Errors." Fortunately, my players appreciate comedy.

D&D 4E Forked Thread: Some Thoughts on 4e

Jerk or no jerk, it seems clear to me that it's much easier in 4E to capture rather than kill, than it was in previous editions. So you should probably cross that off your still-seemingly-infinite list of things to complain about. ;)

An additional note about the stick doll monster: because it was a (seemingly) inanimate doll, and because at first we thought it was damaging us via contact poison while we handled it, the thing managed to get in several psychic attacks before the PC's even knew there was a combat going on...

Run #2 of Piratecat’s Capria game was tonight. Great fun, unsurprisingly. A quick plot-summary: we embarked on a mission to hunt down and (presumably) kill a legendary “dog gobbler” that was plaguing a nearby halfling river-village. Several dogs had vanished from homes in the past few days...

I'm curious as to why you think that. If I'm remembering correctly (and I may not be -- I don't have the books handy), the lowest level healing potion in the PH heals 10 hit points, typically costing a minor action and a move action(?) to draw. My 1st level rogue has a Healing Surge value of 7...

    How Long Is YOUR Campaign?

I don't typically like to "plug" my Story Hour, but since you ask: my game has been going continually for almost 13 years now. We started with 1st-level PC's in 2nd edition, and currently have 18th-level PC's in 3.5e, but it's been one, long, connected plot-line with very little PC (or player)...

You know, an organization as old and important as the Grey Guard probably has chests full of healing potions in the basement. Those potions would be kept in reserve, for when teams of Guardsmen find themselves without enough innate healing ability. ;)

What are you talking about? The Caprian Empire is doing just fine! Just because a few uppity border countries are twittering about rebellion doesn't mean Capria isn't still a strong and enduring entity. Heck, I've never even seen a monster, unless you count that crocodile, which was really...

"Truly suck?" That's kind of a hostile way to present an opinion, and I also think your opinion is weird. You have a problem with "Caldwell" and "Cartwright?" Caldwell is a surname of Old English origin, meaning literally "cold well," commonly used in the middle ages. "Cartwright" was also...

That actually seems short to me! Piratecat's previous campaign, which just ended, lasted 16 years. And my own campaign, which still has a ways to go, will be 13 years old in November. Five to six years is just getting started! :D

Can't disagree with that! Actually, my rogue was already in the water; the boat wasn't big enough for the whole group, and since he's a decent swimmer, he volunteered to swim along behind while tethered to the boat by a rope. The croc went for him first (though it missed with its bite).

Yesterday was the first session of a new 4th Edition campaign, DM-ed by the esteemed Piratecat. While we had run a small handful of 4E “learn the system” sessions previously, this is our first experience with an ongoing campaign in the new edition. PCat has said that he expects the campaign...
