    D&D (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

I appreciate the enthusiasm in that very absolute claim, but... This 1999 product: Has a rules system clearly developed from the AD&D 2nd Edition rules (so it isn't excluded by your insistence that Basic and its offshoots don't count). Also has a rules system that isn't quite the same as...

    D&D (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

I see a blog post in which the author specifically categorizes their own opinion of the topic as "unreasonable", highlights the appeal of unusual races to other members of their gaming group and argues for an inclusive approach to those races in 5e. I understand that you were offended by it, so...

I happen to have all of the D&D Next blog posts saved and I can find only one discussing the 4e race options. (I assume for the purpose of this reply that you do mean "blog post" and not "website article". Please correct me if that assumption is wrong.) This is the blog post in question. Is it...

    D&D (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

Totally, and yet it still somehow came with a CD in the back with a working character generator!

    D&D (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

I agree. Just for fun, here are the various PHBs' inflation-adjusted prices per page: Players Handbook (June 1978): 37c/page Players Handbook (October 1983): 36c/page Player's Handbook (April 1989): 20c/page Player's Handbook (May 1995): 16c/page Player's Handbook (August 2000): 12c/page...

    D&D (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

As I said, I don't think the price is unreasonable. Any number of factors (retail discounts, number of pages, color printing) make the 2024 price reasonable in comparison to the 1978 price. But it is not the case that the price is significantly cheaper than that of the 1978 Player's Handbook...

    D&D (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

While I don't think the price for the upcoming PHB is unreasonable, this statement is not true. Here are the prices of seven different Player's Handbooks, adjusted for inflation using this calculator. Players Handbook (June 1978): $9.95 --> $47.07 Player's Handbook (April 1989): $20.00 -->...

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I think that guess is spot on. Unless it is an art error (which I think is unlikely), that's got to be the Solar Insidiator from Descent. Which is interesting, since it strongly suggests that not only is Eve of Ruin going to return to the locations of past adventures but also the timelines of...

Speaking of 4e Essentials, I sincerely hope we eventually get a 5e version of the Rules Compendium. That book was by far the most used in-game reference of any edition. I realize that 3e also had a Rules Compendium, but somehow the digest-sized 4e version saw way more use.

D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

On the issue of the updates being characterized as merely "errata", my Mac's dictionary says that errata is "a list of corrected errors appended to a book or published in a subsequent issue of a journal". Based on that, it would be fair to say that the 2024/2025 updates are just errata if all...

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I'm going to take issue with this. The replacement of the phlogiston and the crystal spheres with the Astral Sea in the Spelljammer campaign is a much deeper change to the setting than it might initially seem. (I've written about this before here on ENWorld.) Not only are a sizeable portion of...

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Not so much in 5e. In Shadow of the Dragon Queen, Dalamar is a "neutral elf mage".

D&D General The most played D&D Adventure of all time

Tragidore was the first published adventure I owned. I'd bought all the AD&D hardcovers, but none of the adventures. Foolishly, I assumed it would be decent, and tried to run it. It was not decent. The experience was so bad, that I didn't touch another published adventure for more than two...

D&D General The most played D&D Adventure of all time

Curse of Strahd is Ravenloft with a bunch of extra content added around the core adventure. Even if someone playing through CoS spent most of their time exploring the new content, there will still be a core Ravenloft experience holding it all together. In other words, there is a lot more overlap...

D&D General Struggling to get started

I want to second this suggestion. One of my most successful campaigns had the players be members of an adventurers' guild. Most games had a similar structure -- the players were given a mission briefing by the guild, went off do to the adventure, and then came back for a mission debriefing. This...

Doesn't WotC print in the US? My memory seems to think so, but may be mistaken.

D&D General Help: What to do with physical books?

Don't be defeated by geography! Our group had only ever gamed in person for more than three decades, but could no longer do so from 2018. I thought that was it, but was persuaded to try an online session (spanning more than one continent) at the end of 2022. And here we are, with more than a...

    D&D 5E Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

The term "3.5" was definitely in use by fans even before WotC made any announcement about a new edition. For example, this ENWorld post (titled "3.5 D&D?") from March 2002 speculated that the upcoming new version of the Stars Wars RPG was an indication that WotC might also revise the 3e rules...
