Sadly, it seems that was the only scene Mr Cribbins was able to film.

D&D (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

I know. It's much harder to figure out current numbers, since we only really have the Starter Sets and Essentials Kit as guidance. Those make it seem as if boxes are cheaper than hardcover, but we know they are loss leaders. Comparing Essentials with two of the lower page count hardcovers: 2015...

D&D (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

In the 80s and 90s, putting D&D stuff in a box seems to have typically increased the price by $3.00. 1986 AC9: Creature Catalogue (96 page book): $12.00 Immortal Rules (32/64 page books in a box): $15.00 1990 FOR1: Draconomicon (128 page book): $15.00 The Horde (64/64 page books in a box)...

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

The product page for Dungeons of Drakkenheim on Beyond says "Explore detailed maps and battle Drakkenheim’s forces with D&D Beyond Maps", so that seems very likely, but it is only releasing on December 21st, so I don't think anyone can confirm before then.

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming 2024

Why does not needing to modify old adventures imply that changes to the game are wasted effort? Let's use an example. The PCs are in Ironslag, the fire giant area of Storm King's Thunder, and they run into 1 fire giant and 8 orcs (one of the random encounters). Using PCs and monster stats from...

D&D (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

I don't think that was the accusation. Given that the only source of a release date (that I'm aware of) was a post subsequently withdrawn by WotC perhaps an alternative interpretation to "WotC is lying" is "The evidence suggests that the May date was erroneously published, and it seems more...

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming 2024

Maybe the spec. for the art order was: "In the picture Vecna has both hands and eyes but there should be just a hint that his left eye and hand aren't quite the same at his right eye and hand—nothing too obvious, it needs to be subtle enough to keep fans guessing."

What is the largest animal that you think you could beat in a fight?

Definitely. I could technically beat any of the cobras (maybe even some of the smaller mambas) but not without a trip to the nearest hospital, which I happen to know is exactly eight minutes away because we've timed it because of all of the snakes.

What is the largest animal that you think you could beat in a fight?

We keep geese, so I know I can at least subdue one of those (to take it to the vet) without significant injury. We also live in an area with a high number of snakes, mostly spitting cobras but an occasional black mamba to keep things interesting. And once a really, really large rock python that...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

The 4e release cycle was fairly similar to the 3.5e release cycle, which was admittedly aggressive.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

I don't think it is particularly an issue of fighters not being permitted to do damage on a miss. The impression I get is that it is a purity-of-game-mechanic preference. For some people, making an attack roll is a mechanic to determine whether something hits (100% damage) or misses (0% damage)...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Obviously, you are both voicing opinions so you are both right. The quality of each product is entirely subjective, so there can be no answer to the question of whether TSR or WotC made better stuff on average. Every edition has products that stand out from the rest. However the sheer volume of...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

You stated that WotC measure the success of their surveys based on sales. I challenged that. You responded that WotC do surveys because they want to sell more products. You are falsely equating WotC's goals with how they measure the success of a process.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

This may be true, but it is a different claim to what you said previously. Here you are claiming that the metric WotC uses for the success of their surveys is sales. That is not the same as saying "everything WotC does is with goal of increasing sales". A "metric" is a measurement. There is no...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

You appear to be making assumptions about WotC's motivations here. It may be true that WotC's overall goal is to make profits (which I'll assume you mean when you say "sales", since maximizing sales of unprofitable products is a bad idea (cf TSR)). However, it does not follow that the most...
