    Why are skill challenges "broken"?

Skill challenges are the exception. They are the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. To turn this question around, why should characters have to optimize to succeed at a small part of the game (skill challenges) when their lives depend 95% or more of the time on combat? They shouldn't...

The best of feats, the worst of feats...

That minor action is valuable for other things though, and the flexiblity of switching weapons without losing it is very nice.

    (Don't) Get off my lawn

I've been looking forward to the day mine were old enough, and it's fortuitous that 4e came out when it did. I'm a very lucky guy. I thought I'd have to wait until they were 12 or so, but fortunately Ash is picking it up nicely, and I love how it gives them both a lot of opportunities to...

    (Don't) Get off my lawn

I apologize for the length of the post, but I assure you it's all relevant. My oldest son Ashton is 10, plays 4e, and loves it. Caleb is my youngest and he's 7; I let him play ocassionally for short games and he likes it, but he doesn't yet have the attention span for longer sessions, naturally...

Smart DM, Stupid Monsters (possible KotS spoilers)

I played the Irontooth encounter monsters smart, but made certain to describe the foes as very deadly, especially Irontooth. They got the hint and ran, and suffered one casualty, who will come back as an undead villain. Old Irontooth is now hated and feared, and will return later...fun stuff...

EN World Iconics: To 4e or Not to 4e.

I don't see Henry on the list. You know....C'mon August!

    Wizards, need your input.

this. Wizards are incredibly fun to play, and might even be overpowered in the right hands. They are my favorite class so far. I think people upset with the wizard either haven't played them yet, or simply prefer them as strikers+controllers rather than controllers. The only thing I don't...

Wizard wanted to use mage hand to take a weapon

Mage hand is useful and interesting enough out of combat to set off traps etc; I'm not going to allow it to be used to disarm/attack/etc.

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

I think you've got something there. Virtually any character concept can be done with 3E multiclassing, feats, and prestige classes. 4e is limited, and is actually more of a class system than 3e, even just considering the PHBs. The choices at character creation are more limited like a class...

    Sleeping in armor?

It takes 5 minutes to put on armor. (PHB, p212) There don't seem to be any penalties for sleeping in armor, and I wouldn't add house rules that do so. (Spido's reasoning is spot on here I think)

    D&DI What's up with it's opening?

Welcome to beta tests. It's probably going to be incomplete/intermittant for a while, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

    D&D 4E What's the typo/errata situation in the 4e books?

I'm very happy with the lack of problems/typos. That said, there are a lot of pages, and I'm sure there will be plenty of errata, but I've had my books for a week now and have been reading them every day. I haven't been smacked in the face by any glaring problems.

Why don't clerics get Shield proficiency?

Yep, I knew that. As I said, that's just how I picture him. I guess functionally I'd be better off wearing it and carrying a light source or something though.

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Hmm, the ability to teleport ain't the problem, the problem is clearly Blade Cascade's infinite attacks. I was surprised when I didn't see even a relatively high cap on the number of attacks you can make with Blade Cascade (half your level seems like a good limit). Even if the damage weren't...

Why don't clerics get Shield proficiency?

To differientate them more from paladins I suppose. I picture my cleric with a mace in one hand and a holy symbol in the other anyway.

Does anyone actually need the DMG?

Good point. Sometimes we forget the basics and could use a refresher.

The Final Preview - Alignment (Is this really the first thread?)

If it were up to me, I would have removed alignment completely or stripped it down to Good, Unaligned, and Evil. I've always felt that alignment fails as a roleplaying tool because experienced players don't need an alignment crutch to roleplay well and inexperienced players didn't understand...

Does anyone actually need the DMG?

The book has crunch for aquatic combat, flying combat, diseases, poisons, skill challenges, traps, and hazards, artifacts, customizing and creating monsters/NPCs, and guidelines for awarding XP, action points, and treasure. It has a gem of a little section called Actions the Rules Don't Cover...

D&D 4E What is your favorite part of 4e?

Powers for all characters classes, and at will spells for casters. I like that wizards don't have to plink away with a crossbow...they can use magic missle or ray of frost at will.

    D&D 4E 4e FAQ

I hope you are correct. Despite what the RAW appears to be, IMO minions receiving temporary hit points is a huge power increase and can make an encounter much harder than it should be.
