    Speedbumps cost 50k gold

    That's part of my confusion...if it's a "speed bump" it's a pretty harsh one.

    We're back to AD&D1

The thing is, I don't need professional game designers to tell me how to roleplay. I need them to help me resolve things like combat quicker so I can have more time to roleplay. So I think 4e promotes roleplaying. Matter of taste... I can because DM's are tired of spending so much time...

    Speedbumps cost 50k gold

I love rituals. It's a good way to open up utility spellcasting to everyone while still making it easier for traditional spellcasters (er...uh. and...praying people). But I was disappointed with the gold requirements for the raise dead ritual, especially the rapidly increasing amounts...

D&D 4E On-line vendors selling 4E early. Time to ditch FLGS?

I wouldn't blame people for doing that. Money is important and it's nice to have it sooner. But I would consider supporting your FLGS and waiting a few days more for it, especially if they really are friendly and if they add value to the game by providing a place to play, etc. I don't have a...

    My KOTS experience [spoilers]

Yeah, I'm yoinking that, and I'll probably use Dungeon Tiles for the second fight.

    Dragonshield Tactics

Seems much simpler to me. We're a bit like blind men discovering an elephant for the first time... From what I've seen and heard, the learning curve won't be nearly as bad as for 3e.

Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - How to get that feel in an RPG?

If you can find a copy, check out Torg. The idea of having both standard and dramatic encounters worked very well. Standard encounters are fights where there are lots of easy to beat mooks and dramatic encounters are against tougher challenges. Beating the the standard encounters in a...

    Why are healing surges limited?

This is a good point. But you haven't seen all the powers. Another good point. The number of healing surges seems to be another way of differentiating how easy it is to heal someone, perhaps it's redundant. But what if the villain is sacrificing innocents/opening a portal to the...

    Minions: Known or Unknown?

I will neither try to make it obvious or hide minion-status. They will figure it out by descriptions, when one hit doesn't drop a bad guy, and common sense. It seems a lot of DM's are concerned that playeres will metagame too much...saving daily powers for big bad guys and using weak AoE...

    Skills in Combat

I would think that using a skill challenge for a trap would be used only when the trap is complex and a major part of the encounter. I could see DM's overdoing it though.

    D&D 4E 4E Strategery discussion

On a miss, the Lead the Attack exploit causes no damage, just grants you and your allies a +1 power bonus to attack rolls agains the target. On a miss, the cleric's Cascade of Light prayer still does half-damage, but causes no vulnerability. So I think taking the Action Surge feat for...

How will you read the core books day one?

I'll read the PHB and DMG cover to cover then skip through the MM. I like to read new rules thoroughly so I don't miss something, and for me it's usually and enjoyable experience. Then again, I read encyclopedias cover to cover when I was a kid, so I'm not normal.

What I absolutely love about 4th edition thus far

But hit points do still track physical damage too, in addition to all that other stuff. Thus: bloodied, and of course dying...HPs are more abstract than ever, and I think that's great. I love it because it makes so many more descriptions of "damage" possible, you don't have to imagine numerous...

What I absolutely love about 4th edition thus far

Blashemy! I named my firstborn Ash after the Evil Dead movies. And I'm not joking. But see, without Evil Dead I and II, Army of Darkness doesn't make sense. He had to go through all the crap in the first two to get to awesomness he was in the third. Now if they'd just make a fourth...

D&D 4E Love It or Leave It: 4E Multiclassing

The 4e multiclassing rules seem to do what they need to: give players some options for dabbling in other class abilities so that they can realize their concept without creating characters that are too powerful or too weak. It makes me more curious about how many feats everyone gets...perhaps...
