    The Most Underpowered Class?

I've played starlock from level 1 to not level 10 (almost 11). Unfortunately, my DM doesn't allow any magazine rules in our game, even though a lot of the magazine stuff would make my character much more viable. I can only answer your question by saying that I feel that the dragon magazine does...

    Implement powers from other classes

I'm pretty sure this answers the question of whether you can wield class A's implements with class B's paragon path. So, to the OP, yes you can use a holy symbol with the Student of Caiphon PP.

    New Errata/Updates at Wotc

A dev (or a representative for a dev) left a comment on the Wizards forums saying that it is backwards and they'll get around to fixing it.

    Adventure in Sigil?

First, I apologize for flip-flopping on my ideas so often: Mostly, I'm trying to bounce ideas around and brainstorm possible adventure hooks. I hope that's appropriate for this forum. My main goal is to make everything that can go wrong, go wrong for the players as they try to get home. That...

Explain Shake the Earth to me

I think it means Line of Effect based on your other powers, and not this power. So that you can slide a burrowing creature out from behind it's rock into your sight and charge it with an action point or something similar. At least that's how I'd rule it.

    Adventure in Sigil?

Therein lies the problem of my adventure idea. However, I think I've found a way around it that I like quite a bit better. If I were to go with this "plague" idea (which already sounds forced and not very creative), the players would inevitably be the ones to find a cure and solve the problem...

    Adventure in Sigil?

Luckily I don't have to deal with that since I'm in 4e, and the players haven't touched, and probably won't touch, divination rituals for a while. That sounds reasonably workable if I twist it around a bit. Mephistopheles doesn't need a longer life-span, since he's practically immortal...

    Adventure in Sigil?

I DM a 4e group that is on the brink of reaching Paragon status. So far, they haven't done any planar adventures and I and looking to rectify that. I'm planning on having my players thrown (quite literally) into Sigil, and then have to struggle to get back to the Material Plane, where all the...

    Burst Effects and Big Monsters

True, but the book also says, in the same paragraph or section, if I recall correctly, the if it is necessary for the specific position of the player to be determined (as it is in the case for bursts and blasts), the player gets to choose which square they occupy. The DMG doesn't say what...

    Burst Effects and Big Monsters

You treat the entire creature as the origin. If it helps, think of a close burst x as another way of saying "target every creature/enemy with x squares of this monster". The rules in the DMG state that if it is needed to determine the location of the player on a mount, the player gets to chose...

Still confused by the character builder.

It's a problem I've had as well, except with equipping weapons. I gave a character a double sword, but only two of the power blocks had the actual weapon there. The rest had "unarmed" as the weapon. As for why it happens, I can only begin to guess, but I'd say it's more a program error than...

    Multiple vulnerabilities

Did this change in an errata? I was aware that the greatest vulnerability/resistance was applied, that is, they don't stack. I would think that makes more sense since "vulnerable all" encompasses "vulnerable radiant", only the greater of the radiant damage vulnerabilities is used (in this case, 10).

Tempest class feature with Double Weapons

I have a similar question: A double sword is both a heavy blade and a light blade. I haven't read anywhere that defines a certain end of the weapon as a heavy or light blade (that is, the whole weapon is both a heavy and light blade). Would feats that affect light blades only boost off-hand...

4e - Help me cook up a skill challenge

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely add in some food related encounters before hand. Right now I'm thinking of doing three separate skill challenges for the entire encounter, each complexity 2 (6 successes before 3 failures) and succeeding each individual challenge will give bonuses to the...

4e - Help me cook up a skill challenge

Good question. First off, we use a virtual table top, so the players will be able to see the HP and defenses of the monster (I do this because after 10 levels of adventuring, characters should be good at sizing up opponents). I'm going to up the dragons level to be fairly threatening, though the...

4e - Help me cook up a skill challenge

My players (a group of six level 9 PCs) are searching for a McGuffin, and their search takes them to the lair of a brown dragon. They've recently fought and defeated a few dragons, so I want this encounter to be more unique than a fight to the death. After reading over brown dragons in the...

how to role an npc or monster when marked by a defender?

I've only got experience DMing a fighter defender, and he is really good at locking down monsters. With their combat superiority (+Wis to AoO, and they stop movement when creature provokes an AoO by leaving a threatened square). And, as a DM, if you're constantly having monsters ignore marks, I...

how to role an npc or monster when marked by a defender?

I tend to play a fighter's combat challenge as one of two things, situation depending: 1) The fighter insulted or otherwise taunted the creature into combat with it. This works for certain monsters that are less intelligent and brutish. 2) The fighter is focusing all his attention on that one...

    4E - Devil Lieutenants - Need Help

I've always thought it might be fun to set the characters in a gladiatorial arena style combat, where they are pitted against several waves of enemies. Perhaps one of the devils decides to test the character's endurance and has them fight several waves of devilish creatures along with having...

    Clarification: Surprise Rounds

The problem I had with it is that if someone puts a slow, immobilize, restrained, stunned, daze or other controlling effect, it can be removed before the rest of the players get a chance to take advantage of that; indeed, it's a wasted power since even the attack in the surprise round can't take...
