Making money matter (forked from Abstracting Wealth)

I'd argue that they're affected in a positive way. Now the players have some extra money to spend on rituals (rather than magic items). In the same vein, rituals can now be used as plot hooks (need to find that ritual, gotta go adventure for it).

Cruel Cage of Steel - Combat Advantage

All of the status effects are applied at the very end. The order of text in a power is a rough guideline for how things happen. In this case, you make three attacks, and depending on how many hits you get on what targets, apply status effects accordingly.

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

It isn't a full group of the same character, but close: 1 Pacifist Cleric for healing 4-5 Wizards with Wizard's Fury daily power, optimized for Magic Missile With 4 wizards, you get 8 MMs per round, and at 9 damage (5 int + 2 power + 1 enhancement + 1 Staff of Missile Mastery) damage each...

    Opinions--Heroes of Neverwinter FB game

The battle system in DA:L is standard turn based. HoN plays a lot more like Final Fantasy Tactics, or Fire Emblem. You move individual party members on a grid, attack and whatnot all based (loosely) on the 4e framework.

    Opinions--Heroes of Neverwinter FB game

I saw this game demo'd at San Diego ComiCon and was super excited for it. It's probably the most excited I've been for a D&D game since Neverwinter Nights. It looked like a solid game, with a good D&D, specifically 4e, feel. You could pick it up whenever, play through a few dungeons with friends...

Do you Expect to hit Epic tier?

I haven't played close to epic, but I'm more of a DM, and when I started my campaign I fully intended to run the characters through at least level 27. That was 4 years ago, and luckily the campaign is still going (several people have left and we've grabbed new guys, but we have a solid group...

    Hybrid Monk/Ranger

There's a feat that gives you +2 AC to all opportunity attacks; that'll help you get into position for your powers with relative ease. I believe there's also a feat called defensive advantage which gives you +2 to AC against enemies who are granting CA to you.

How would you do this? Illusion? Teleport? Invisibility?

Maybe split this into a 2-part fight: Part 1 has the players fighting 3-5 creatures, but the trick is that there is really only 1 creature; the pit fiend. He can teleport between the creatures, taking over that body at will. Each creature can move on his turn, but he can only occupy one of them...

Help Me Make an Awesome Character for Lair Assault (Spoilers)

Oh, also you might consider going hybrid, since wizards lose very little, and you can gain some very nice encounter-long daily buffs from other classes (Invoker and Battlemind have some nice level 1/5 dailies).

Help Me Make an Awesome Character for Lair Assault (Spoilers)

The trick to beating the Lair assault is a synergistic team, not just one optimized player. Also, from what I've seen, not a lot of the enemies are vulnerable cold, just resistant to fire. Some things to ponder: Since the entire assault is considered a single encounter, pick dailies, utilities...

    Halfling Staff-using Slayer help

I'm not sure how to do it with a Slayer, but two ideas come to mind right off the bat: As a Knight you can use the Defend the Line stance to slow enemies, then grab the World Serpent's Grasp feat to knock then prone. Or if you still want to stay a Striker, you could change to a monk and use...

Good preliminary encounters for a hydra

Hags, trolls and oni are my standard "swamp" monsters. For a hydra as the climactic encounter, I would probably do some combats with yuan-ti (they could be servants of this hydra, who knows). There's also dryads and wood woads that might think the players are up to no good in their swamp...

Tips: Revenge of the Iron Lich

Thanks! I thought I had found all the posts and recaps for the adventure, but I must have missed these two. Much appreciated, my good fellow.

    Your best Monster

I DMed a group where the party's paladin was, shall we say, aggressively misinterpreting the rules in his favor, to the point where I couldn't get close to killing him with a normal encounter, and any tougher and the rest of the group was toast. Two rust monster swarms, an owlbear, and a...

    D&D 4E 4e & The Duel...How?

I'd add that you should stat the enemy as a PC of the same level, and same role. I've done duels in the past between PCs, and the defenders and leaders ALWAYS came out on top. Strikers and controllers almost never were able to do enough damage to get past a defenders hit points and toughness, or...

Tips: Revenge of the Iron Lich

A week from now I'll be running the 4thCore adventure Revenge of the Iron Lich at a convention. I'm wondering if anyone here has run or played that adventure, and if there's any tips, tricks or traps I should watch out for while running the game. Particularly anyone who's played this before, any...

Need some wilderness encounter building help/ideas

If they're trying to tame the land to make it livable, and its mostly wilderness, I think a run in with some nasty dryads, treants, and nymphs might be in order (or any fey creature for that matter). You might also try a hag or oni that's been lording over the local troglodyte and lizardfolk...

    Boss Monster

I'd XP you back for this excellent idea, but I must spread it around first. This is a great idea, and reminds me of the hedge maze in Resident Evil 4. It wasn't big, and wasn't super dense, but confusing and scary at the same time. Here's a video if it, though the maze doesn't start until about...
