What's the wildest D&D story you've ever heard?

The person who first introduced me to D&D played a magic user (we called them that then). Gods Demigods and Heroes had just come out, on the heels of Eldritch Wizardry (which introduced psionics). All the gods were statted up, and of course they all had psionic ratings, which made them...

    DnD system grit

Have you looked at playing 4E in DarkSun? It has a lot of the flavor you seem to want. Iron Heroes is another system/setting that is very sword-and-sandals, though it is basically 3E in structure. It's also perfectly fine to remove elements of 4e (or any system) that you don't like. No...

    Lair Assault 2 Live

The only thing I know is there is water, and from the picture, a way to escape a grab might be a good idea. And the Glory awards list includes the phrase "complete both encounters..." so unlike the last season, it appears there will be a short rest. Good for recharging encounter powers, bad...

How to make sure monsters disrupt a ritual?

As a Pagan with both children and cats, I can tell you that no intervention is necessary; if there is a ritual, your monsters will always interrupt it.

Getting a look at Lair Assault

that would spoil the surprise! Just find out when your local store is running it, and show up with the cheesiest, most broken level 8 (starting in December) or 7 (for the one ending this month) character you can come up with.

A Paid trip to Spellhold [IC] Chapter 3: The Prison of Horrors

Good job, Anguish, you've half killed it! One more complaint should finish it off! +1 attack (bless), resist 5 all (moment of glory), duelist's prowess stance active. HP: 44/44, +7 thp, 6 surges Resources available: action point second wind 5 thp when first bloodied Off-Hand Strike Nasty...

    New rituals!

Heroic tier rituals. A nice 9 pages of new rituals, plus feats that allow ritualcasters to (among other bennies) cast some rituals without spending money. I like this!

A Paid trip to Spellhold [IC] Chapter 3: The Prison of Horrors

Best idea I've heard all day, Cliff. Chizz takes off at a full run toward the bridge, unslinging his bow as he flees. MOVE: run 8 MOVE: run 8 FREE: stow knives MINOR: draw bow

A Paid trip to Spellhold [IC] Chapter 3: The Prison of Horrors

I think you're right, Anguish. It doesn't look like it wants to negotiate.

    Brinkmanship

Players are cautiously approaching a boarded up farmhouse in ghoul-infested countryside; smoke from the chimney indicates life within. They bang on the door and the farmer pries loose a few boards, peeks out and hurriedly opens up. "Get in, quick, before they come back!" The rest of the party...

You want to do what? Outrageous, and otherwise interesting player requests.

My wife's druid's rhinoceros companion had horseshoes of spider climbing. He would charge across the ceiling to avoid obstacles.

    Shadow as a "power source"?

    It's Zelazny's fault.

Why do we need Encounter Powers?

Many class features in earlier editions functioned as encounter powers, though they were not labeled as much. Rages, bard performances, wild shapes, and turn undead were all useable x times per day, which often worked out to more or less once per encounter - or at least, something more than...

D&D 1E Thinking of bringing my 1e AD&D DMG to my 4e game.

I've been bringing RoboRally mapboards and Gamma World weapon cards to my 4e game lately, so no, the 1e DMG doesn't seem out of place at all.

    Ideas for Mini-campaigns?

Create a new settlement in the wilderness. Start with a disaster or war that has left a few hundred people homeless in dangerous territory; the PCs are the only competent ones to protect their families and friends as they make their way to (slightly) safer ground, search for a new settlement...

Whats considered to be an implement?

five artificer-wizards built like this can really make a mess of a Lair Assault.

    Attacking while climbing ?

No, you are of course using your hands to climb. Your weapon may be in a wrist sheath, or in your teeth, or pressed between your body and the stone, or being used to dig into the wall for extra purchase, it really doesn't matter. But at the instant when you need to hit, you get it into your...

Ritual support! So many people said it wouldn't happen.

What's the most useless abilities in the game?

I think they have a dwarf (and a goblin, an orc, etc.) template of powers and they just print them on every creature of that race, even if it makes no sense for a minion.
