What DO you DO for... Rangers?

I allow rangers that take undead as their favored enemy, if they multiclass as clerics, to add their favored enemy bonus to both their turn check and their turn damage. I also allow them to score criticals on undead. Dave

Ditto. Everyday life is filled with opportunities for gaming ideas. Dave

    Thoughts on D&D Minis

First, there are several eBay sellers that pack up left-over commons and sell them in large lots (Auggie's sells a lot of things by 10 at a time). Second, if someone really, really felt that an "orc pack," for instance, could make money, they'd buy up a few hundred cases, open all the boosters...

Wow. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks. Dave

    Colossal Red Dragon

It can be acquired at far less than this. Of course, so too can the books and modules be acquired at far less than full retail... Dave

    D&D and the Implied Setting

None of the D&D editions has "done my setting" well either. But, I've never really had the time or interest to completely learn another gaming system, so I've always just modified the system to meet my needs. From 1e forward I've made massive tweaks to the rules so that the game fits me...

    Polymorph 8HD

The fleeing situation is circumstance dependent. There are buildings or cities where turning into a cat or rat or something would be useful. Sometimes, blending in is the way to flee. Dave

    Dice are Cool

Instead of the d4, roll a d12 and a d3 and divide the result of the former by the result of the latter and find interesting ways to round off the non-integer results so that you get an even distribution. Or, stick with the d4. :-) I like dice too, I have hundreds of them. Dave

    Weirdness with D&D Minis!

A bunch of friends and I got together and opened 15 factory sealed cases of boosters when that set came out. Between all of us, we pulled exactly zero Wizened Elder Watchers. So, whatever the odds are, weird things do happen. Dave

    Definition of Metagaming

As a DM, I allow some degree of metagaming (definition intentionally left out for now) at the table. Most of my players are veteran players. Sometimes they want to be in character, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they want each others' advice, sometimes they don't. If a situation comes up...

    The Tyranny of Choice

I feel your pain. When I go to the store to "buy some cereal" (or, insert some other product), I'm overwhelmed by the fact that I have a hundred choices. Geez. Dave

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Identify vs other editions

This is one of those spells that should be modified by the DM to suit the campaign. I'd really surprised at how stingy it is given the sheer volume of magic in the typical D&D setting these days. I do like the idea of having the spell improve the chances of success of a skill check--not unlike...

    Stupid door tricks

Even better, his wizard ally could cast knock on the door first, and if the DM was in a good mood, the first swing the barbarian takes against the door could throw it open, leaving an over-extended barbarian (maybe even without his weapon) standing there gaping at the swinging door. :-) Dave
