    Nuclear weapons of D&D Rules

I wonder if all the changes to the polymorph spell(s) indicate that the whole concept of polymorphing is one of the nukes in the game. In one of the groups where I'm a player, we've all sort of changed the way we deal with polymorph w/o appeal to the changes that WotC has made--so, from the...

    D&D in the news...

Lost a gamer and a solider--a very bad day indeed. Three cheers to the paper's editor for going with the photo. Dave

    Translating the SRD

Well, you can't translate it into the language of the yuan-ti, the mindlflayers, or any of the other non-OGC critters. ;-) Dave

That Balor mini is gorgeous! What's your favourite?

Champion of Eilistraee is one of the best. The Iron Golem is a nice piece too--clean, simple, deadly. I like the Orc Skeleton, but I'd really like one with an eye-patch, a bandana, and a skeletal parrot on its shoulder. Dave

    Towards a Workable RPG Theory

When I engage in roleplaying games, this is what I do. I sit or stand, usually in a single room, usually with more than one other person. We talk about things (I'm leaving out the other stuff, like, we metabolize and breathe and all that), we gesticulate, and, perhaps the weirdest of all, we...

Why isn't base attack a skill?

For some time, a while back, I was considering doing something like this, and then dropped the idea in favor of the "don't reinvent the wheel" philosophy. I was going to turn combat into a skill like Knowledge. So, you'd have, for example, Melee (longsword), Melee (dagger), Ranged (longbow)...

Radio broadcast mentions D&D in a positive light

All, Here's the link and text. Dave Friday, November 04, 2005 Mind Games Broadcast by April Lidinsky on November 04, 2005 http://www.mchron.net/ee/radio/2005/11/04/ Ask any kid in Indiana to tell you about the ISTEP standardized tests, and you’ll get an earful. The tests were administered a...

    Are Sorcerers really that bad?

Much, very much, depends upon the DM and campaign. In a setting where it's very hard to find new spells to add to a spellbook, and where scrolls aren't just fluttering out of Ye Olde Magick Shoppe doors everytime another gnome walks in, Sorcerers can have a significant edge over Wizards. Dave

    Sunder/Improved Sunder

I suppose a Marilith with lots of powerful weapons and multiattack (or whatever it's called) could do a job on someone's weapon. Dave

    Is this legal?

How about a ZP calculator instead of an XP calculator? Make up some term, call it "ZP" and then have the calculator generate some number. That number is NOT the same as what the XP would be, but it's some factor or multiple of it. No clues are given about how to get XP from ZP, nor is any...

    Loviatar toys with Epic characters

    1) There could be some planet or nation or city where the only deity anyone has ever heard of is Loviatar. 2) Similar to (1) above, but there is only one deity anyone's ever heard of, and it's some pseudonym that Loviatar uses. Heck, she might even come across as Lawful Good, and grant spells...

Wizards' Rules of the Game articles

Does anyone know if Wizards plans to consolidate their Rules of the Game articles into, say, easy-to-print and easy-to-read PDFs? Does anyone know whether it would be illegal for someone to put said articles into a PDF and make them available for download? (Appropriate credit would be...

    Loviatar toys with Epic characters

Help. I've been running a campaign for a couple years now, and a subset of the characters (each player has several characters of different levels for different adventures) has been trodding through Gehenna for several months. They're in Loviatar's realm (just got there) and will be stuck for a...

Critical hit with a Maximized scorching ray: how much

Thanee is correct (as usual). The point with the dice is that, unlike a magic weapon's "bonus dice" issues with criticals, there are no "bonus dice" with a Scorching Ray. The maximize grants you 24 hit points, and doubling that gives you 48. If the spell weren't maximized, then you'd roll 8d6...
