What are you reading this year 2020?

Just finished The True Bastards: Book 2 of the Lot Lands by Jonathan French. It's a mixed bag. It took ages for something interesting to happen, and then just went a bit nuts! I struggled to get through the first half, but it picked up enough that I'll get the next one if/when it comes out. Now...

What are you reading this year 2020?

I've really enjoyed this series - its a slightly different take on the urban fantasy novel, but am defintely looking forward to the next book due out later this month.

What are you reading this year 2020?

Currently in the middle of Cast in Wisdom The latest in the Chronicles of Elantra series by Michelle Sagara. This used to be an interesting collection of books. (Its been steadily going downhill for a while though). I'm still hopeful it will pick up, but so far it feels like pages and pages of...

What are you reading this year 2020?

Im 3/4 through the The Light that Falls (Book3 of the Licanius trilogy). I really enjoyed the first two books, but this has been a bit of a slog for the most part - although it might have helped if I'd re-read the first two as it's taken a while for this to arrive. The story is finally starting...

What are you Reading? Debonnaire December 2019 edition

Just finished The Elements Bond (book 7 of the Elemental Academy) by DK Holmberg. This has been a really hit and miss series... It was a real struggle towards the end as it lost all sense of tension, jepardy and indeed clarity. The lead character is constantly failing to use his "magic" (or...

What are you Reading? Noctilucent November 2019 edition

Just finished The Wolf’s Call by Anthony Ryan. its a continuation to the Blood Song trilogy, but seems to be suffering from the law of diminishing returns. It was all a bit meh, and didn’t really hold my attention. It did get better towards the end, enough for me to interested in the next one...

What are you Reading? Noctilucent November 2019 edition

Just finished Brent Weeks' The Burning White: Book 5 of lightbringer. It was a really enjoyable (if very long-winded) read right up until (just before) the "final battle". Unfortunately at that point it all just went a bit "meh". It rather felt like the author was trying to include every idea...

Spider-Man: Far From Home spoiler discussion

It was fun. It looked good, and the illusion scenes were pretty cool but having a vague knowledge of the characters meant that there weren’t really any big surprises until the post credits scenes.

    Some Good Omens appear...

I was also only going to watch an episode a day, but also ended up binge-watching the entire thing in one evening. I really enjoyed it - Tennant and Sheen were brilliant! I was a little disappointed that the "other" four horsemen of the apocalypse didn't feature as that was my favorouite bit...

What are you Reading? Mentatiferous May 2019 edition

I've only read The Broken Empire and The first two Impossible Times books. They are not related stories, but since the Broken Empire trilogy is all available, I'd go for that first!

What are you Reading? Mentatiferous May 2019 edition

Just finished "One Word Kill" from Mark Lawrence. I rather enjoyed it and was one of the more hard-to-put-down books I've read for a while. It was quite a neat story, although you can see some of the plot twists coming a mile off!

What are you Reading? Agleam April 2019 edition

Just picked up The Ember Blade by Chris Wooding. Its off to quite a slow start, but its quite engaging so far. It feels like a fantasy version of the aftermath of the Roman invasion of Britain, so I'll be interested to see where this goes.

What are you Reading? Agleam April 2019 edition

Just finished reading The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French. Its... a bit hit and miss. Some nice ideas and intriguing characters, but one or two plot holes meant that it didn't always hold my interest. Still will probably pick up the sequel when it's out.

Umbrella Academy - Not bad, not great

I enjoyed the first few episodes, but it got less interesting (and more predictable) as it went along. It does have a few nice set pieces - I might watch if there is a second season, but I wouldn't be particularly bothered if there isn't

What are you Reading? Froody February 2019 edition

Ok I was wrong, "Cast in Oblivion" didn't get any better... Total Yawn fest. Another series bites the dustbin... Onwards to the latest in The Brackenford Cycle - Grindhelms Key by Nick Mosely. I enjoyed the first few books in this series, so hoping this will be good too.

What are you Reading? Froody February 2019 edition

In the middle of "Cast in Oblivion" the latest entry in the Elantris series by Michelle Sagara. So far, so unbelievably tedious... This seems to be a common problem with the recent entries in the series - when the books finally get to the plot they are normally quite interesting, but it seems...

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

It's finally got to the point where I've given up on this incarnation and removed it from series link. I didn't even get halfway through the last episode. It is hugely disappointing - I've been watching since the Tom Baker days, and haven't missed a single episode since Peter Davison took over...

What are you reading? November 2018 edition

It helps when you have read it more than once so that all the "F" character names become more distinguishable.. It took me a couple of attempts to read it all, but I thoroughly enjoyed when I did. I feel the urge to have a re-read...
