Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

Hi Flynn, Are you still running this game? I'd like to hear more! cr0m

Sandboxing in the Nentir Vale (was: Emergent Features in KotS)

I've only played a couple 4e sessions, but it sounds like you're using a skill challenge for the characters trying to get away from Kalarel... is that right? Very cool! In the bit I quoted, did the Warlord just ad lib making an item that could take the curse or is this one of his powers? If...

Ideas for a 3.5 FR campaign (new DM)

LOL, QFT. If I were to run a game with that hook, I'd just start with the pilgrims leaving and forget roleplaying out the high priest scene. That ought to mitigate some of the paranoia. :) I'm glad my rambling was able to help you out, and let us know how it goes. Baldur's Gate is a great spot...

Ideas for a 3.5 FR campaign (new DM)

So this campaign idea has really grabbed hold of me and won't let go--I love it! If I were to run it, I'd set it on an archipelago, like the Wizard of Earthsea books. It's tailor made for episodic adventures, it's easy for the recurring forces of evil to show up on the horizon, and the good...

Ideas for a 3.5 FR campaign (new DM)

My main advice to a new DM is start small. You already have enough of a "big picture" for your game. Followers of a dead god to resurrect/rescue and the followers of a god who opposes them. And you have an idea of how the dead God gets brought back to life: using a relic. Obviously the relic is...

Game Night banner ad not redirecting

Hi folks, I clicked on the banner ad for Game Night and was sent here: http://www.enworld.org/ads/resolve.php?recordid=6692 Which displayed this: document.location='http://www.jonnynexus.com/gamenight/'; And didn't forward to that url, as you'd expect. That means Mr Nexus might be getting...

Do people really want/use fan adventures?

Yes/yes! I like fan adventures. Caveat -- they must not have a very detailed set up or elaborate backstory, or I can't slap them into my home game.

KotS: can I run it w/out the story?

Can you elaborate? Do you mean that players tend to complete the adventure in one session, or just that once the dungeon is cleared, there's nothing left? If it's the latter, that's a-okay, I'll just restock it. :) Also, is the story something like "ZOMG stop Bad Guy RIGHT NOW or we're dead"...

KotS: can I run it w/out the story?

I'm running a sandbox game and thinking of trying 4e on for size. I'd like to take KotS and drop it into a location on my world map that's a ruined Keep. Does the adventure make any sense without the backstory about Orcus (all I know about the module is from the WotC site)? Can it handle repeat...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG AR3 -- Review

I agree with the Alpha status, but still a good overview of Pathfinder A3. Well worth the read, thanks.

Ah, the Copper Pot Inn. Don't forget to ask for our renowned Ambush Suite!

    No Random treasure !?!?...

    I think it was 1d10 one-handed, 2d6 two-handed, etc, etc. ;) It was totally a minmax choice.

In contrast to the GSL, Ryan Dancey on OGL/D20 in WotC archives

I googled "posrep" and got "position report" (like sitrep for "situation report"). I can't figure out what it means in this context. ;)

In contrast to the GSL, Ryan Dancey on OGL/D20 in WotC archives

One thing I don't really understand about the OGL as Open Source SW comparison: if the idea was that the public would improve the rules, then the custodian of the SRD needs to incorporate those improvements, no? Otherwise, the SRD, which is the baseline for all rules additions and publications...

    Mike Mearls On the OGL

Why is being focused on a few products and leaving others for other companies a failure? If it weren't for OGL, we would have had M&M, Conan, etc... they just would have been done with some other game system. IMO OGL gave those games a much, much wider audience than they would have had they used...

    Interesting Travel

I gotta chime in with travel being boring. The reason they're skipping the points of interest is that only conflict is particularly interesting. You can get away with some foreshadowing, but generally you should use terrain to achieve a mood. For example, you don't have characters trotting over...

    The Failure of Gleemax

Thanks for googling for me. I'm at work and didn't have time to link in my post. The Gleemax alpha was a huge failure--in development and managing the expectations and subsequent complaints of the community. But the nice thing is that it's not as though they're stuck with the developers.
