    Quantifiable, non-XP, role-playing rewards

I actually run a 'token store' at my table. Tokens are poker chips. I hand them out for things like showing up with your dice and a character sheet, fast combat turns and, you guessed it, good RP. The chips can be redeemed for tangible in-game rewards, like adding one to a dice roll, re-rolling...

    Sorry. Gnomes = :rant::rant::rant:.

A hard decision at the game table

Well, since you've already made up your mind that everybody is out to get you, why even start this thread?

D&D 5E Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

At-Wills, Encounters, Dailies and Utilities. The four types of powers in 4e.

D&D 5E Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

Don't forget psionics from the PHB3. I thought the point system and the augments were clever. At the end of the day what you want is for every class to a) have a selection of interesting options and b) not have a bunch of wildly divergent subsystems. The latter is hard for a DM to deal with and...

Original Star Wars actors to take center stage in new movie

I have not been impressed with J.J.'s new Star Trek films. They're fine action movies, but they're not Trek. I have some forebodings about having him take on Star Wars.

D&D 5E Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

Sure. It's definitely not a clone. It has its own elements, especially the storytelling tools, which are something you'll probably never see in ANY edition of D&D. Which, honestly, is too bad, but it is what it is. But what I really like about 13A is that it borrows a lot of the things that I...

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

So what do you call the short, bearded men who live underground??

    What are your core races?

What I take away from this is that you actually oppose the idea of core races! I guess from my perspective, core races are races that a player can assume will be allowed at virtually any table. Obviously there will be exceptions, but those will be rare. Pretty much every list on this thread...

D&D 5E Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

Well, these kind of things are subjective, but here's just a few of the things 13th Age has in common with 4e: - Positional combat (13A's is much more rules-lite than 4e's, but it exists and it offers tactical options nonetheless). - A 'bloodied' status ('staggered'). - Healing surges...

What economic class do you fall into?

Unless your land comes with a hereditary title, I don't think it counts.

D&D 5E Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

It's not a clone, but 13th Age builds on a lot of 4e concepts.

What economic class do you fall into?

It's worth noting that people in the US and UK pretty much mean two different things with the term 'middle class'. In the US, pretty much everyone considers themselves to be 'middle class' if they are not a) rich or b) poor. 'Middle class' seems to mean something a little more upper crust in the UK.

Rumor: Windows 9 already on its way

A big tech-rumor is making the rounds this morning: Windows 8 sales have been so far below expectations that Microsoft is rushing out Windows 9. Mind you, this is not officially confirmed. Take it for what it's worth. Read.

A hard decision at the game table

Honestly, it sounds to me like you are a little paranoid about the legal system. IANAL, but from what I understand taking precautions can NOT be used as an admission of liability against you. I also don't think her insurance company is likely to sue you unless they incur huge costs that they...

Original Star Wars actors to take center stage in new movie

'Old actor' being the operative phrase here. All of the actors are now 35 years older than they were when the first film came out. I don't want to see Grandpa Luke and Grandma Leia anymore than I wanted to see Grandpa Indy...

    Those other two pillars

For good or ill, 'classic' D&D has always leaned heavily on combat and given only a little thought to exploration and virtually none to interaction. You could certainly make an edition of D&D that fixed that, but then people would complain that you were turning D&D into a 'storytelling' game...

    New Math and Gamma World

I seem to recall that the new monster math showed up around the time the Dark Sun books were published, so everything after that should use it. Pretty sure that encompasses GW.
