10 Most Anticipated RPGs of 2013

Cool list! About where I'd rank them, considering I backed both Numenera and 13th Age and have Edge of Empire on pre-order. :)

Need Help To Make/Find My Perfect D&D

Should be in stores within a couple of months, so while it might not work for your current campaign, its something to look at for your next one. And if you are willing to take the plunge now, without a book to flip through, I believe you can still pre-order the game from Pelgrane and get the PDF...

Need Help To Make/Find My Perfect D&D

Based on your posts, I really suggest looking at 13th Age. It sounds like you have similar interests to me. I was initially turned off 4e too, but then figured out its really a narrative game with a tactical combat system. Once I figured that part out, 4e really clicked for me and has been a...

Dragon Kings: A Spiritual Succesor to Dark Sun?

I loved Dark Sun as presented in the original box set. Then TSR blew up the setting with the first novel series by Troy Denning and it was never the same since. The revised Dark Sun setting for 2e was terrible, especially the way they tried to water down the setting and hit everything with the...

    Sell me on Numenera

Since the game isn't out yet, I'd love to see a comprehensive breakdown of the mechanics. I also backed the Kickstarter (for all the books), but wasn't a playtester so I know little about it. I backed primarily off the strength of Monte's vision and my respect for his other work. :)

    My 13th Age Report

Manabarbs did an exhaustive overview here. I love the game myself. Heinsoo (who designed 4e) and Tweet (who designed 3e), have really nailed it with this. As I said in the other thread, 13th Age really captured the spirit of how I played AD&D when I was a kid but with modern 3e/4e inspired...

    13th Age Prefix

There is a multi-page thread here on RPG.net about it. I LOVE the game. As Morrus said, its the best of 4e and 3e with some streamling and narrative friendly rules added on. As one RPG.net poster put it, its the spiritual successor to the Rules Cyclopedia. Obviously, my take is my own, but to...

    Your most anticipated 2013 RPG?

13th Age is number one for me. Its like my ultimate dream edition of D&D. :) Next would be Numenera. Really excited to see what Monte has cooked up (no pun intended). :)

So, about those Man of Steel reviews...

Jor-El specifically stated that Clark's "cells have drunk in the radiation of Earth's younger sun, and that Earth's atmosphere is more nourishing than Krypton's". So that part is pretty straight forward and right there in the movie. We know Kyrptonian's have to adjust based on baby Kal...

So, about those Man of Steel reviews...

Essentially a combination of the sun's radiation and the atmosphere is what gives them power. Not completely one by itself. Aboard the ship, most of the Kryptonians were not much above Earth normal. For the Kryptonians this is because they hadn't yet absorbed much yellow sun radiation (partially...

So, about those Man of Steel reviews...

I've seen it twice and posted my thoughts elsewhere, but I'll share them here. My review after my first viewing: And after my second viewing:

    Do You Read This News?

I read this page daily. I don't post on the forums as much as I used to, but I still come here for the news. Without the news page, my visits to EN World would be more like once a week instead of every day.

    Ingenious & Game-expanding Houserules

Ferghis is close. Per the 13th Age rules, its a big d6 you set out starting in round 2 of any combat. Essentially the value of the die in round 1 is zero. From there, the die starts at 1 and goes up 1 every round thereafter. All PCs add the value of the die to their attack rolls. In 13th Age...

    Ingenious & Game-expanding Houserules

For 4e, I allow expended Encounter powers to be recovered by spending a Standard action, with a couple of exceptions. No recovering powers that grant actions themselves (to avoid some sort of infinite action chain combo), and no recovering powers that have already defined mechanics for recovery...

Struggling with Swordmage //Questions about monster

First off, if you are using a module or monsters that predate MM3, you need to boost their damage based on WotC errata. I recommend around +5 damage per attack per tier as a good rule of thumb that you can use on the fly to boost your monsters. Secondly, remember that Encounter powers can only...

Pathfinder 1E So far not impressed with Pathfinder

Personally, I have found 4e to be mechanically robust, engaging, and fun. Its also the only edition of D&D I have ever played where I feel comfortable allowing all material from all books and have never had a single balance problem. I'm having more fun running my 4e game then I have had in years...

Pathfinder 1E So far not impressed with Pathfinder

Pathfinder has good flexibility when it comes to character creation, but is bad at ensuring minimum role competency. Since you are an experienced DM, there is a fix. Gestalt characters. Allow gestalt characters, but ban multi-classing to keep things simple. With gestalt, there really should be...

I Have Created the Most Detailed Game World!

My friend, SHARK, who used to post on EN World a lot more back in the day, was similar to you. His homebrew world of Thandor was incredibly developed and detailed over some 20-30 years of gaming, though he was old school. No minis at all. At his apartment once, I saw multiple stacks of binders...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I love it when players surprise me. In fact, in my 4e game, I don't even pay attention to what characters my players play at all. I throw out some basic guidelines and house rules, but then I leave it up to them to make whatever they want. They then describe the PC to me in their terms, but I...

Electronic copies of Dragon and Polyhedron now available from Archive.org

The interesting thing is, a lot of those old back issues of Dragon can't technically be reprinted by even WotC, due to rights of many of those old articles being in limbo or reverted back to the original authors. If you recall, TSR got into trouble when they released the Dragon Compendium CD-ROM.
