    Digital Insider #13

Re: the Paypal option and canceling auto-renewal- I do specifically remember that Randy acknowledged both of those concerns in one of the previous Digital Insiders (either #11 or #12, probably the latter) and said they were working on it. I would also add the opinion that Paypal is not any...

Thoughts on the published Wizards adventures

I must have been in the minority re: Splug, because my one group that found him did enough digging to uncover much of the story in advance. So they let him out and he provided some basic info about the part of the dungeon he knew, then stole money and ran off when they took an extended rest...

Thoughts on the published Wizards adventures

I've been running H1 with two separate groups for the last couple of months. One group is still on the first level because they detoured off into the natural caverns section, while the other found the stairs to level two pretty quick- they're now just outside area 18, the one before the Kalarel...

    Can't find the new FRCS

I guess I don't really understand why anyone would buy their D&D books off the shelf of a big-box bookstore. It's one thing if you want to support your FLGS- but Amazon or B&N.com both have prices around 1/3 below retail (and free shipping is pretty easy to get). There are previews of both...

If Paizo had gone 4E ...

Same exact thing here. The Adventure Paths are so incredibly superior to the WotC 4E modules that it ain't funny. But I just don't have the time to do all that conversion.

    Poll: Irontooth Total Player Kill

I admit that I, as DM, took a couple of preventive steps- such as making sure the PCs were rested and had all their powers after the first half of the encounter in the woods. At level 1, the five of them took everything out with a couple of PCs going down. Nobody out-and-out died, though. It...

new gamers from the ranks of WoW types

I grew up in an affluent, very socially conservative area. (Which is why I spent my first few years with the Mentzer Red Box with very few people to play it with.) In my experience, it's true that kids whose families were better off were less likely to play D&D because their parents tended to...

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

As a 4e adopter-to-be, when I first read the announcement, my initial thought was that Paizo was clinging to a sinking ship because of a couple of lopsided messageboard polls (that probably represent a scant fraction of the company's actual customer base). While I'm disappointed that I won't be...

Dungeons & Dragons Classic Videogame Retrospective

No disrespect at all to IGN, but GameSpy did an even better D&D computer game retrospective around the celebration of the game's 30th anniversary back in 2004. They also did a long interview with Gary Gygax, incidentally. http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/articles/538/538848p1.html

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advantage

This might be the reverse of what many Paizo subscribers might be telling the company now (in this thread), but I'll subscribe when they start doing those products for 4E. 15% off puts it over the top for me (makes it so I don't have to keep going to Amazon).

    Have you pre-ordered?

Yeah, true, but Borders coupons are usually only good for a few days at a time and the timing is very unpredictable. Amazon's deal is good non-stop until release. Plus, if you do the trial Amazon Prime (free two-day shipping on everything) offer when the release dates approach, then make a...

    Have you pre-ordered?

Having joined the 3rd edition bandwagon late enough in the process that I never learned all the rules properly, I'm determined to be in the front of the line for 4E. The new edition seems to be promising a much more streamlined and exciting game from what I've seen. Which is why I've...

    Bad RPG Collecting

I owned and never played P&P as well. Creating characters was fun, at least, but the game was so complex it collapsed under its own weight. I was shocked to discover that there were actually additional modules and rules published for it (and a fan site listing them all). Strangely, there are...

Which "X Series" adventures have you played or ran?

I've seen it said on here a whole bunch of times that X3 isn't that great, but I remember really enjoying reading as well as running the copy I got at a garage sale for $1. I also had X7 thanks to a yardsale. I thought it read pretty well, but I never had characters powerful enough to run it...

    Best Forgotten Realms adventures.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that Ruins of Adventure was written before the Pool of Radiance CRPG, while with Curse of the Azure Bonds it was the other way around. Feel free to correct me.

    Best Forgotten Realms adventures.

Gotta mention the original Ruins of Undermountain boxed set. Yeah, I've seen some people on here complain how many of the rooms are empty, but that also makes it customizable. The designed rooms are generally pretty great. There's also enough background for an entire campaign to be set in...

    How did RPGs grab you?

My slightly over-involved parents (I was the oldest child) were looking for something to balance the scales with my natural left-brained-ness. How they settled on the Mentzer Red Box circa 1983, I'll never know. I know they found it in a toy store; I don't know why. I grew up in an extremely...

    Dragonlance Thoughts

Why the disdain for kender and tinker gnomes? In fact, I find the Krynn version of gnomes to be so much more interesting than the "core" gnome that pretty much any gnome I would ever play (or have as a PC in a game I run) would be of the Krynnish style. In my mind, the core gnome is dull as...

Have you decided to change systems?

At the risk of sounding three years old: BUT WHY?

Have you decided to change systems?

Diaglo, I'm certain you've been asked this question a zillion times, but I must know: why? And please don't give some sort of reflexive reason like, "It's the one true game." or whatever. I am sincerely curious as to why you prefer the very first edition of the game to other versions.
