    Beast Companion as a Feat?

While working on a 5E D&D game set in the Westeros/Game of Thrones universe, I came across the fact that there are a lot of characters in the settings who you wouldn't call rangers who have beast companions (like all the Stark children). I also don't think the Beast Companion attributes of the...

    Ranger Rehash

Really like it as well. Very versatile, allows a lot of different ranger types. (One hopefully helpful note: You use the term Wilderknacks and Wildercrafts interchangeably. Might need to find/replace one or the other.)

    Knight (Fighter Subclass)

Pretty simple and effective port. Do we need to halve the proficiency bonus to initiative?

Will I still love my girlfriend in 4th Edition?

Thread necromancy. Because this was my favorite EN World post I ever made. I can't believe 4E came and went in the years since!

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

Based on input from others in this thread, I am adding the following Conviction Maneuvers to the class: Lordly Reputation. When a character you can see or hear makes an Intelligence (History) check to know something of your reputation, glorious deeds, or family line, you can use your reaction...

    D&D 5E Is WotC over-thinking the Ranger?

The ranger needs a combat ability at 1st level. Every other class has one. The problem with favored enemy is not just that it currently sucks. Even a better version would have the problem tjat the DM decides if it ever gets used. Favored Enemy is dragons? Well, for the first six game sessions...

    D&D 5E Is WotC over-thinking the Ranger?

I feel like a lot of folks are defending poor game design-- game design WotC's own surveys indicate a plurality of respondents think sucks-- as if it were on purpose to serve some subtler plan. I think the "Sorry guys, we goofed" tone of D&D team posts on the subject shows the rest of us aren't...

    D&D 5E Is WotC over-thinking the Ranger?

So, if everyone is amateur at combat at 1st level, why is everyone else less amateur than the ranger? Every class gets a combat ability at 1st level, except the ranger.

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

I disagree. I will try to avoid real spoilers by being vague, assuming you've read the books. Speakng of the Baratheons, people fight for Renly at first because he has Charisma and Stannis doesn't. In order to correct this problem, Stannis has to use EXTREMELY extraordinary means. Personal...

    Healing Cantrip

Based on these points, I now think the temp HP don't need to be extra temporary. At all. They are already temporary by nature, and they've been purchased with a precious resource.

    D&D 5E Is WotC over-thinking the Ranger?

Maybe it's just me, but with the new Unearthed Arcana ranger, is WotC trying too hard to solve a problem that is simpler? Yes, I find the Ranger to be underpowered at 1st level (unique among all classes, has no class starting abilities that help it be more effective in combat) and I consider...

    Healing Cantrip

I think the temporary hit points should only last until the next time d target finishes a short rest or a long rest.

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

mmm. Point well taken. I do think the class needs more in the way of social capabilities, since they have a very special and specific place in their society, but somehow it had not occurred to me to make conviction dice a way of implementing that. I will take a look at putting something like...

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

My goal with adapting a new class from the Paladin rather than just telling people to play fighters was partially to not constrain my players to a very low number of class actions because of my choice of setting. I still want there to be something in the space where the Paladin would be in a...

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

Yeah, I was not trying to do the Nights Watch with this particular class. I would do those guys as rangers too. I am trying to do actual knights like Ser Jaime Lannister, Brienne of Tarth, Ser Loras Tyrell, Ser Jorah Mormont, Ser Barristan Selmy, etc. with this class. I am also working on a...

Class variants: ranger, fighter, and others ("Class X" series)

I just spent a lot of time redoing the ranger for a low-magic game, and also to solve some the existing problems. I read a lot of variant rangers working on it, but somehow missed yours until now. I wish I had read yours before I worked on mine!

Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

The knights in the A Song of Ice and Fire books do? My perception of the knights we see in the novels is that they tend to be either ineffectual fops, Arthurian Round Table types, or absolute monsters in large scale battles and warfare killing lesser soldiers left and right.

    Healing Cantrip

That's pretty solid, actually. Better than what I had. I was about to propose a solution to this, but what Jaelommiss is smarter than what I was going to say. Gaining those temp HP at the cost of a Hit Die makes the cantrip way weaker than False Life.
