Game of Thrones 5E Project - Knight Class (Spell-less Paladin)

I've begun a project to convert the various Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire RPGs so I can run 5E D&D in Westeros. A huge part of the converting/game design work, however, is the shortage of reliable spellcasting in the realtively low magic world George R.R. Martin has created. Since knights...

Loss of class features for Eldritch Knight in exchange for becoming half-caster?

I kind of still think the paladin conversion suggested above would be the way to go. You could sub in some of the former fighter features to keep it more like the original Eldritch Knight, since you have to replace a bunch of paladin features anyway. Replace Divine Sense with Detect Magic at...

    Healing Cantrip

Maybe both then? An out of combat heal cantrip, and an in-combat temp HP one? We would still need to limit things about to keep short rests serving their intended function, but maybe this: Quicken Healing Necromantic Cantrip Casting Time: 1 minute Range: Touch Components: V, S, M (a poultice...

    Healing Cantrip

FYI, here's a cantrip I allowed in my home game, which does this a little bit (but obviously has a very different thrust and flavor): Draining Touch Necromancy cantrip Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Components: V, S Duration: Instantaneous The touch of your hand drains a target’s...

    Healing Cantrip

I think a cantrip that heals should grant temporary hit points instead. That way, the HP it provides don't stack. Otherwise, in combat healing stops being the limited resource it is designed to be. It seems like using HD would undermine this as well, but maybe I'm wrong.

Microlite5E - A slim hack of fifth edition that's backwards compatible (Jan 2016: now with 2-page class sheets)

Having loved Microlite20, I think this is an awesome project! Some thoughts: -A system where dual-wielding is always better is weird to me. No reason to build a fencing/duelist type character? -Human trait pretty much makes that character not care about Inspiration. -Flurry of blows is an...

AMA [June 10] Margaret Weis, Author (TSR, Dragonlance, Margaret Weis Productions, Cortex, Firefly RPG, Star of the Guardians)

Margaret Weis Productions has designed so many great games around licensed properties-- so good I've purchased games for properties I didn't care for and used them to run other things (I didn't watch Smallville, for example, but so many people told me how great the RPG was that I bought it and...

[UPDATED] RAGE OF DEMONS! New D&D Storyline Features Drizzt, Underdark, & Demon Lords!

I was concerned about Drizzt being mentioned, until I saw that Steve Kenson led the team at Green Ronin that wrote the book. Kenson knows his way around keeping established iconic characters from being annoying (DC Adventures, among other games), and is one of the best designers out there. I am...

Did anyone else have this experience submitting/writing for DRAGON magazine?

I will consider this asked and answered. Thank you kindly for all the replies.

Did anyone else have this experience submitting/writing for DRAGON magazine?

Knowing that DRAGON and DUNGEON have ceased publication in their current form, and with no hard feelings at all, only gratitude and a bit of confusion, I want to ask if anyone else had an experience similar to this while after being asked to write a first draft of an article for DRAGON (or...

    Who Are Your Friends?

To serve a very similar purpose in D&D/Pathfinder games, I adapted the Trust & Betrayal mechanics from Night's Black Agents and came up with the following system: LOYALTY DICE At the beginning of an adventure, each player allocates a number of Loyalty Dice equal to half the party size (rounded...

The 15 Best D&D Modules Of All Time

Well, let's face it, no single forum is going to be a truly representative sample of D&D fans as a whole. For example, I love Monte Cook's work, and I would expect EN World regulars to have an especially high regard for it as well, but I do not believe a poll that somehow magically had access to...

The 15 Best D&D Modules Of All Time

I would be interested to see what the results were for 4E adventures, since none made it into the top 15. I actually was Googling around the other day for most popular 4E adventures and couldn't find much of anything.

    Shoot for the Goal

Have you read Lorefinder? It applies this exact principle to Pathfinder with a very well-developed system called Drives, among its other optional rules.

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Congratulations to darkcyril! As a guy who has directed or appeared in half the Shakespearean canon, I heartily approve of your inspiration. This looks like a great game. Also very glad to see Follow the Leader in 2nd. No slight to anyone else, but that was the game so genius I wished I'd...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

I just finished reading all the entries as well, and I have to say, it is really hard to think of any that didn't bring at least one new and interesting idea to the table, and many had several. I still feel pretty good and competitive about SEVEN DAYS, but I will say there is one other game in...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Since each author posting a bit of info about their game seems to be customary, I should take the opportunity to clarify a few things about my own game, SEVEN DAYS: 1) Forgot to post my own line in the OGL Section so that people could use the open content. The very last line of the doc should...

Question regarding the 7-Day RPG Contest

Working on my RPG Contest entry up until the last second, I forgot to include the final line in my Open Gaming License section, which I believe is required for it to be technically open: SEVEN DAYS RPG, Copyright 2013, Jeremy Forbing; Author Jeremy Forbing. Also, ran out of time to do a...

can my players read the campaign guide prologue?

D'oh! I should've thought about the prologue as a possible player handout! As written, it totally spoils the first encounter-- I could've easily written it spoiler-free. MORRUS: I emailed you a week ago about an important question related to WotBS (I also replied to your email back in March)...
