Why is WotC trying to kill my FLGS?

Wow, check out that weather! It sure is reductio ad absurdum around here!

Why is WotC trying to kill my FLGS?

The reason to buy local is to support your local economy--to keep money circulating within your local space instead of leaving it. If most of the money from my buying dollar goes to WotC, the book distributor, the shipping company that delivered the books to the store--I have no reason to buy...

Why is WotC trying to kill my FLGS?

I buy local when it truly is local: farmers' markets, and other such local producers. I do not care especially about buying local when it's a local purveyor of a translocal product. I have no incentive at all to waste (an admittedly very small amount of) gas to travel to any of the several game...

    Bladeless Swordmage

Don't forget that the spiked shield counts as a light blade, and that it can be enchanted as a throwing shield. I very badly want to make a High Magus of the War-Frisbee, using the swordmage class.

    4e Swashbuckling campaigns?

A few ideas come to mind: Martial classes only, plus swordmage and paladin available via multiclass. Be stingy on the items with significant special effects, but generous with basic +n magic items, and things like flensing weapons or veteran's armor. Light armor and small shields only, but...

    Disappointed in 4e

I've been checking in with this thread every time it grew a new page between 12 and its current 17, and at least since then, it's been focusing on the exact same discussion of hit points, abstraction, and healing surges, as if the resolution of this debate (which is championed on one side by...

4e Hit Points and pre-4e Hit Points: A Comparison

Indeed, it doesn't even have to be immediate death. An enemy falling to 0 HP in 4E is "out of the fight", not necessarily dead. This could be achieved via surrender as easily as by being frightened to death--and if the player is bent on killing the foe instead of simply disabling, then you can...

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Since all you need to generate new monstrous NPCs is a good look at the stat blocks of existing members of that monstrous race, I took the appendix write-ups as rough draft PC race stat blocks, obviously not playtested (or, in many cases, even finished), but there as a sort of "Here's what we...

    Swordmage Dimensional Dodge question

Definitely not the rewind situation. I think that the sequence is: 1 - Attack is made. 2 - Attack would hit. 3 - Before it hits in any way as to cause damage, swordmage teleports. 4 - Swordmage is beside the attacker.

Vampires, Pop Culture, and Your Game

Of course, my preference is setting- and context-dependent, but in terms of my platonic ideal of vampires? I like the alien, inconceivable monster. The human brain dedicates a tremendous amount of real estate to community interaction: facial recognition, group bonding dynamics, emotional...

To all D&D fans - what are the top 3 specific changes 4e needs in your opinion

Anyone from WotC who is reading this, I implore you to ignore damn near everything in this thread. I have long been in the roleplaying hobby, but have never touched D&D until very recently. I was, of course, aware of D&D; it's the brand giant of the hobby's industry. It never appealed to me...

    Resurrecting old RPG favorites.

I'd recommend Spirit of the Century for Adventure!, and Wild Talents for Aberrant. Alas, I've found no decent substitute for Trinity.

    5th level rogue and 10K gold...pimp me!

I'm tempted to suggest that you blow the whole wad on +3 summoned drowmesh armor, for a total AC bonus of +5, and a cloak of distortion, and play the Invincible Rogue.

Reflavoring 4E for Athas (Forked From: Dark Sun 4e: Can it work?)

And Preserver wizards do not get a spellbook, instead selecting the same number of powers that everyone else gets.

    Elemental Tempests and Shocking Flame

I'd say that you get both types, but only a single +2--so the damage becomes +2 fire, lightning.

    Combining magic properties

AV has the Transfer Enchantment ritual, however, so I assume it might become possible to create a Swiss army sword. I don't think this is a terrible thing, though; you're unlikely to find one in a pile of treasure, so it's something that must be made by the characters during the adventure, and...
